Its been rumored for most of the summer, but official confirmation via the Ohio State Website today confirms, DU will play a game against Ohio State in Nationwide Arena.
The second game of the Ohio State men's hockey home series vs. Denver will be played at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16 at Nationwide Arena in downtown Columbus, home of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets. The first game of the series will be at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 in Value City Arena, the Buckeyes' home rink, on the Ohio State campus.
The teams met in Denver last season, splitting the series Oct. 24-25, 2008. The Pioneers won the opener, 3-1, before the Buckeyes rallied to win the second game, 4-3.
Ohio State is 6-0-2 all-time in games played in Nationwide Arena.

And they soon will be 6-1-2 in that arena.
Will be interesting to see if Ohio State will be able to draw fans to the event.
Its a bye weekend for Ohio State football.
if i remember correctly nationwide isn't that much bigger than the Schotenstein center
I remember the schot being about the size of an NHL rink anyway.
I'm confused about the point of this.
Just a different way to showcase the team -- as DG pointed out there is no Buckeye football that weekend -- and using the NHL arena as a gimmick more than anything.
If DU is nice and high in the polls come that weekend; I be that helps drive ticket sales for the event.
yeah i just checked
the Schott holds 17,200 or 17,500
Nationwide holds 18,144
the only tangible difference i can find is that the Schott has an olympic sheet
hell they got under 10,000 last year against michigan atthe schott
My mistake. Ohio State football is away that weekend at Perdue.
One of the big mysteries of college hockey is why a Big Ten power like Ohio State doesn't dominate in hockey.
All the other Big Ten Schools have won multiple National Championships, sell out their arenas and feature hockey as a money making enterprise.
Playing in an NHL Rink is a big deal to the players.
I suspect that Ohio State is getting the rink for "free" and with an increased gate everyone will break even.
I think last year's series took DU a little bit by surprise. OSU is no cakewalk. Factor in the adrenalin of playing in the big room,,,,, the Bucks might just bring a few surprises to the scoresheet
There is a conflict at the Schott. The buildings are similiar in feel, and the ice in both is standard size.. It is not a marketing effort, it solves a building conflict
I am going to happen to be in Columbuas that Thursday. Is there any alumni activity there? Anyone going from DU?
Steve Fihser the archives guy...

Lucky you. I'm jealous. :-)
No one I know is going. Have not heard of any alumni activity.
I'll ask Rob Revette when I'm in Denver next weekend.
