(above) The Magness crowd chanted "Chevy" as DU's goaltender was wheeled from the ice
Record-setting University of Denver goalie Marc Cheverie left the ice amid chants of "Chevy, Chevy" from the Magness Arena crowd Friday night, but it wasn't the exit anyone anticipated after the junior broke Peter Mannino's program shutout streak record.
Cheverie was carried off on a stretcher after being cut in the back of the leg by the skate blade of Minnesota State's Justin Jokinen. At 2:31 of the third period and the game tied 2-2, Cheverie and Jokinen became tangled in the crease after Jokinen missed a tap-in bid from the doorstep.
Cheverie, bleeding profusely, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. (read rest of article)

That was tough to watch last night. Here's to a speedy recovery Marc. Thankfully it wasn't worse.
I'm not a fan of how the reporter wrote this: "Cheverie and Jokinen became tangled in the crease after Jokinen missed a tap-in bid from the doorstep."
Kinda makes it seem like Jokinen did something wrong. Perhaps he could have said the player was hooked and took a freaky fly, that resulted in his skate catching Chevy. The way it's written kinda looks like it's blaming Jokinen and that's not fair. It was a freak accident and I'm sure the kid feels horrible it happened. In the end, they don't want to hurt anyone!
I think Maverick fans are super empathetic about this, given it wasn't long ago that we had a serious skate injury like this happen to our goalie Tormey.
While I'm on the subject though, I have to comment on the contact with the goalie thing. Some of the WCHA refs let way too much stuff go on to the goalies. Last weekend our goalies were being beat on non-stop by WI and the refs just watched. At one point in time, the goalie saw the guy coming at him and went low and had him to a barrel roll over him. Now, that's just messed up!
Oh, and I forgot to say...I hope Chevy heals quickly and is back for DU. He's a great goalie!
It's nice to see a fan from an opposing school actually show character and sophistication.
I don't like that Jokinen is blamed either because it absolutely was not his fault. Get better chev!
Nobody's mentioning Lars Paulgaard, who probably went out & spent alot of time & effort on a really cool Halloween get-up, thinking it would be a fun-filled night watching his team. Sorry dude; looks like you gotta dress up like a hockey player like all the other guys..... no tootsie roll for you!
I've heard something different, From what I heard he was attended to within the Ritchie Center. When I left the game last night the ambulance that was on standby had not left DU yet and had nobody in it.

"Cheverie needed 30 stitches at Porter Hospital to repair the wound and is expected to miss a few weeks of action."
Chevy was at the game tonight for parent's weekend and came out on the ice with his mom. He is on crutches.
He got a hell of an ovation too! Murrary did okay after the two freebies in the first. The kill was week tonight. I give MSU credit they played us very tight all weekend. They are quick and disciplined. I'll take the three points!
