DU Jacks Up The Price Of Student Tickets

(above) Students who delay in buying their hockey ticket each week will pay a hefty penalty

From: DU Clarion

Beginning this season, students who purchase tickets to hockey games will be charged $18 after 5 p.m. Thursdays.

If tickets are purchased before 5 p.m. on Thursday, the cost is $5.

“Packing Magness Arena is our No. 1 priority,” said Erich Bacher, spokesman for DU Athletics.

“We are encouraging our students to secure their individual game tickets early in the week, so we can ensure that all of our loyal fans have an opportunity to enjoy DU hockey.”

This is the first time student ticket prices have gone up.

This year, Athletics and Recreation received over $81,000 of the student activity fee, approximately 6.5 percent, to provide student tickets for all sports except hockey.

This sounds like a good strategy to force more students to commit themselves to supporting the team by offering a low price early in the week.

On the other hand, there is a lazy and non-committal side to alot of DU students, and the $18 late week penalty may keep many of them from walk-up decisions and keep them on the ski slopes instead. Let's see if it works...

I think puck swami hit it on the head, hopefully it helps fill in the student section. In any case, no one should complain about the price as there is plenty of opportunity to get the 5-buck ticket

I have no problem forcing students to get off their butts to buy tickets early.

However, I'd like to make sure no students are left outside the arena because of the $5 tickets. Times are tight and it would take little or no effort for the Alumni to raise several thousand dollars and have some "FREE" games for the students this season.

For just $1,500 we could give away 300 tickets to the students. Just a thought.

I don't have a problem contributing to the ticket fund; however, how many students don't show up because of a lack of funds?
I think it's probably a lack of caring.

Are you kidding, we're loaded with expendable cash, if I had to light my cigar with anything less than twenty I would seriously hate myself. Oh well, got to go the Audi is all warmed up and Chet and I headed up to one of his parents many cabins in Vail or Beaver Creek or Aspen. For the love of mercy I hope we don't have to stop in that hole they call Breckenridge (and I’m glad it’s not on the way) that place smell like fake leather and what’s the point of Loveland anyway is that to stop all the poor and unfortunate before thy get to the good stuff. I'm not apposed to going to a game on the Alumni's dime, but only if there's nothing else to do.

So when the tickets are bumped up to $18 are they released to the general public, or are they still reserved for students only?
