Chevy's Injury Timeline Revised

Edit: In the Interview link above Chevy claims to be aiming to return in time for the North Dakota series.

Starting University of Denver goaltender Marc Cheverie is expected to be out "four to five weeks." That means he may miss the huge series at Magness Arena against the University of North Dakota on November 20-21.

A more conservative timeline might be for Cheverie to heal through Christmas and come back in the second half of the season.

Obviously any type of an infection in or around the wound could delay the injury further.
DU's Upcoming Schedule
11/6 @ Alaska-Anchorage
11/7 @ Alaska-Anchorage

11/20 North Dakota
11/21 North Dakota

12/11 @ Minnesota Duluth
12/12@ Minnesota Duluth

noooooooooooo, we need chevy against the sioux. I don't know if murray is capable of dealing with such a hostile and abusive team. We may need to send some blankets to ND.

Murray actually played pretty well against the Sioux when he played at REA last year with the Under-18 team...so it's not like it's nothing he hasn't done before.

Murray can win or tie every game while Chevy is out if he just bears down and doesn't give up any third period goals.

DU is good enough to come back from deficits. We just need great goaltending in the third period.

I completley agree with Sara and DG. Adam was brought here for a very specific reason. DO NOT sell him short. The boy has been playing hockey for a long time and has seen some pretty intense games. If Marc is out, there's no other goalie in the NCAA I'd rather have in there than AM. I am 100% comfortable going into any game, any where with either of our 3 goaltenders.

Might be a little good news here to temper the huge bad news of losing Chevy. Murray is now under the gun. He might play well and gain confidence which would get him on the road for our top goalie in two years. Funny things happen im sports. got to play them out.

Like all the optimism on here, but the fact remains that we now have a rookie goalie with an .856 saves percentage, which is a recipe for disaster at this level, especially if he can't solve the early jitters.

Murray needs to improve dramatically, as DU's defense is simply not as good we I thought it would be - it's not in the top 20, and DU's vaunted offense is not in the top 20, either. DU is winning largely becuase of Cheverie, who is the best goalie in the country before the injury.

The Pioneers need Murray to show us that he can play effectively at this level in a Pioneer uniform, and that he can put out a concentrated, 60 minute effort.

Stop with the doom and gloom crap already. DU wouldn't have recruited him if he wasn't good! Plain and simple

This is not at all surprising--if Chevy's cut is indeed fairly deep, he'll need some significant time to get it healed. All of the stretching and flailing that goalies do will do nothing but exacerbate the wound unless it is completely healed.

This will be a very interesting portion of the season for the Pios. A rookie goalie who has not been sharp overall, inconsistent execution in their own zone, some PP struggles, and a meatgrinder schedule. After the series with UAA, DU gets a bye. Then series with UND, St. Cloud, CC and Duluth, before the break. No doubt the mettle of the team will be tested.

No doom and gloom - just facts. The coaches are well aware of DU's defeciencies right now, and I expect them to improve.

All recruits at the WCHA level have the potential to be good players, including Murray.

What I am saying is that Murray needs to show that he can play consistently at this level, which has not happened yet. An .856 saves perecentage is simply not an acceptable level of play. He needs to step up his game. No goalie is going to win WCHA games saving only 85% of the shots he faces.

DU's issues don't stop at Murray, either. The offense, defense and power play are not yet in the top third nationally. It's still early of course, but for DU to be a top level team, they need to perform at a higher level than they have to date. The only player who is (was?) really performing at a nationally top notch level is Chevy, and he's out.

This is a team with high expectations, and they need to up their performance level accross the board if they expect to be in the upper echelon this year.

I am optimisitic that they can play at that level, but the stats don't lie - they show that DU needs to play better and they can't just rely on Chevy at this point.

Murray needs to learn how to hold on to his stick, I think he lost it three times Sat night.

Anonymous said...

True, but everytime he lost it, he still made saves and played like a stud.

The guy is gaining confidence, that much was evident as the game went on Saturday night. He needs to build off of this weekend and into the UAA series.

Swami is always such a downer. Even when he is right.

I just talked with Chevy this morning, and he said he hasn't spoken with the doctor since the injury occurred and still is under the impression that he'll be back for the ND series. He said that the muscle is healing fast and that is leg is feeling good.

I hope this is the case.

Thanks for the update on Chevy.

Obviously that contradicts an email that was forwarded to me yesterday.

Either way it gives more for North Dakota to think about leading up to the big series.

Good one Dg. I'm sure ND could really give a shit about who may or may not be in goal 3 weekend series from now. You make it sound like teams are overlooking current opponents to worry about injuries an a future opponent. All teams, including DU, take this season one game at a time. I think you better be concerned about DU playing a very physical AA team in Anchorage.........THIS WEEKEND........ You really are an idiot.

Anonymous said...

And here come the hordes of susie bloggers who complain about DU fans complaining about UND on a DU blog....

Anonymous said...

This is not a Sioux vs. Du issue. DG often makes some pretty idiotic comments. Any educated sports fan realizes that teams don' "THINK" about opponents 3 weeks in the future. The margin of winning or loosing in the WCHA is very slim. Teams must focus one night at a time. Strap your chin straps on for the AA series. ;)

You have to admit it would be pretty boring around here without us Sioux fans. If it were'nt for us, it would only be the four of you all blowing each other about DU hockey.

4:34......we appreciate your participation and intellect. You sure do add a lot. I haven't felt this enlightened since this morning's bowel movement. Keep up the good work, slapdick.

Not in the top 20 nationally in defense or offense? Yikes, that has to change and has nothing to do with Murray.

Swami is right, his stats suck and he needs to improve. Murray did have some great saves on Saturday but he started the game very cold and gave up 2 goals on 3 shots (at least that's what the scoreboard said) and that is not a recipe for winning a game.

The concern surrounding Murray is legitimate. He got benched on the U-18s last year and has not put up even average numbers so far in the chances that he has gotten. (also worth noting, Chevy was benched on his Junior team before coming to DU as well).

However, the guy has proven that he has a tremendous amount of talent and can be a fantastic goalie. Played up a year on the national team, has beaten CC and played UND tough, among many other accomplishments I'm sure. Gwoz and Co. have a fantastic eye for goalies and Adam is no exception. Practically every major school with a goalie opening wanted Adam and we got him. I'm sure with time we will all be extremely happy that we got a goalie of his caliber (hopefully it's this weekend against the Seawolves :-)
