i have to ask...what do DU fans think of that? As a UND fan, i love when we see DU UND matchup...it is always interesting to see what will happen. when prpich hit pauk in the balls, gwoz was certainly correct to get pissed off. last year "walk" i am not so sure of. i think that was pure theatrics...but it worked, because DU was playing like crap and that got them into the game. at least that is my view.
I wonder if Todd Anderson will be the ref in this weekend's series? I don't know if the WCHA would have the stupidity to do that again this time around?
You can't really talk about "the walk" without mentioning the refereeing that led to the incident.
DU had actually been playing pretty well, but six of last seven penalties were called on DU including Gwoz's bench minor. They missed an obvious call when Ruegsegger was taken down and then called a penalty on Tyler when he retaliated.
Granted the incident was very unusual for hockey, but certainly no different than a typical basketball or baseball coaches ejection.
Just another strange chapter in the DU-UND series that has blown up in intensity in the past five years.
I think the DU and UND rivalry is way more exciting than the UMN and UND series. I think the games are much more fun to watch both teams play a simular style.
dishnI agree Goon. I honestly wish they'd put all the egos & trash talking & tempers aside and really play the game without penalties and short handed advantages. You'd really see the best of NCAA out there.
Seems like all the teams in the WCHA just don't like each other at all, in the case of DU and UND it’s almost a feud. I think both teams know what's on the line in this series. Look at your goaltender it's seems like he would play the game on crutches if the training staff let him.
I think DU fans viewed the Gowzdecky march this way. When it started, we had the same general UND reaction starting with bemusing to see our coach march across the ice after the ejection. Why is he doing that?...
But while UND then fans then got angry about it for delaying the game (and because a lot of them just hate Gwoz on principle), I think most DU fans probably sat back and figured that Gwoz had his reasons for doing it.
On reflection, he probably had a lot of reasons for doing it -- fire up his poorly-playing team, draw UND fan ire from his team to himself, show up the awful refs a little, disturb the six penalties in a row called on his team and perhaps, to acutally get an explanation...
