DU 1 - UND 0 Final

(above) North Dakota coach Dave Hakstol gets "Booned" during the 2nd period on the FCS-Rocky Mountain broadcast

There's nothing wrong with the Chevy. Marc Cheverie recorded his fourth shutout of the season in just his sixth start as the University of Denver defeated North Dakota 1-0.

Drew Shore scored the game winner in the second period on a beautiful pass from Joe Colborne.

Two great teams, two exceptional goalies. One F***ING idiot coach......an absolute embarassment to the WCHA....total disrespet to the Refs. Congrats to DU on the win.

I don't think Hakstol is that bad...

UND's fans made up for DU's apparently "embarrassing"coach- rude gestures, obscene language, and threats to the student section, in front of small children, and DU student removed for reporting the behavior because of "arena policy."

Idiot coach??? Did I miss Hakstol giving the refs the bird again, in front of his son?

I personally thought the coaches taking control of their players was called for since the jackass refs couldn't do their job. Both coaches were on the ice yelling at refs at different times after the first. I think the refs, as usual, were the true embarrassment to the WCHA.

FYI - It's embarrassment, not embarassment, disrespect not disrespet

Safe to say, the Magness Arena Fan Satisfaction Representative stationed at the Complaint Desk had a very VERY quite, lonesome evening. What a great game that was to watch. My only regret was the Genoway & Patty weren't playing. In January, I sincerely hope these 2 teams give the fans at Ralph Englestead Arena a great show like we just saw.

Great win for DU tonight over a tough and talented Sioux team. Chevy stood tall and the Pios got just enough offense to win. Although there were lots of whistles and play stoppages, it was a very entertaining game overall. It was nice to see DU throw their weight around a bit and play a more physical game. I like having Ryder in the lineup for that very reason. I thought Nutini and Lee were strong tonight as well.

Well there was a pretty amazing hockey game tonight.

I sat right near the kid that Booned the coach--that was classic.

Chevy was the difference in this one. He was rock solid and get's his 3rd SO in his last 4 starts.

Stickney joked with George in the post-game that he should wear cleats tomorrow night which is hilarious! (Did I spell that right anonymous?) Brett Hextall is the biggest punk in college hockey. He runs his mouth constantly and I loved it when he got leveled in front of his bench tonight by John Ryder.

BTW--I agree with all the bitching about the refs tonight. It was by far their worst performance at Magness this year. Nothing close to consistency. Both teams got shafted several times. They were totally inept. I want to see the replay of the disallowed goal.

DU dominated the first and even with the long 5-3 UND only had 5 shots in the period. UND looked very sloppy with the puck in the 1st.

I give the Sioux credit they out played us for most of the third. At one point in the second (about half way through we had a 27-14 lead in shots and the final tally was 34-34. The final kill was the game winner. UND had nothing left in the tank after that.

I have to say it was a hell of a battle. Can't wait for round two.

Nice game DU.
Two talented teams...I would guess the two best teams in the WCHA.
Hopefully UND can get the split tomorrow.

Love the hatred for Hextall. :)
He certainly took over for Prpich nicely. :D

Game could've gone either way...but, oh, IT DIDN'T!!!
D-Rah-E-Rah-N-rah V-E-R!! WOO HOO

He got BOONED! lol.

Magness,
Is this your definition of DU getting shafted.......... 3 straight power plays to begin the
2nd period.....of course, this was after another ice-capade GWOZ temper tantrum performance to end the 1st.... give me a break. You must of been watching thru your Boone glasees.

I continue to wonder where all the Sue fans come from. But then North Dakota is a good place to be from.

I would say Magness got Boned not Booned.

12:08, I think there was only one coach on the ice tonight....we all know who that was.

Anonymous said...

10:01... you thought, that was your first mistake. And clearly you didn't have the vantage point to see Hakstol out there with Gwoz. Good try though.

As usual, there were some questionable calls. The one consistency in the WCHA is the refs are inconsistent. I believe there were 19 penalties called--10 on UND, and 9 on DU.

Re: Hextall. Hextall did not impress me much at all last night. I thought he was much effective in last year's series, although I saw those games on TV only. Perhaps he was especially effective in UND's 8-3 blowout win, during which DU was very frustrated. He certainly brings grit to the lineup and relishes his role as agitator. However, aside from a couple hits and a good scoring chance (I think he hit a post) he didn't impress me much. Quite frankly, in a game like that, in which both teams are playing hard, are evenly matched, and are competing for every square inch of ice, his antics (bumping guys after the whistle, pushing, yapping) come off as very juvenile.

I can't remember who it was, though I think it was Hextall, but someone tried to start a fight with Chevy himself last night...Chevy just smacked him upside the head with his glove, told him to get out, then the refs came to halt things.

Classic! Haha

Chevy is more of a man than the entire sue team...

Met a few Sue fans at a campus restaurant after the game. One was talking all kinds of trash even though HIS TEAM LOST. That's how fans get beat up. But one of them apologized for his friend and we had a fun conversation about college hockey. Turns out they're all Colorado natives, in school at CSU, but one guy's dad went to Sue Univ. Soo they borrowed the dad's Sue jerseys and came to DU like they friggin owned college hockey.
Was so happy the Sue fans had NOTHING to cheer about last night, thanks to Chevy and Shore!!

Here's to hoping that Chevy bitch-slaps that girl brenda hextall every time she gets near his crease.

Great win boys! Fuck Hakstol and the Goons from ND. Take em to the cleaners tonight.

UND will whine they didn't have elf boy - but Genoway is the most overrated player in the WCHA. Have fun playing in the AHL the next 3 years before you finally give up on hockey!

Unknown said...

I haven't heard any UND fans online bitching about not having Chay - and that's a mute point, IMO. You won't hear it from me... someone else had to step up, and that didn't happen. I think it's a little off base to say that Chay is overrated. How is he overrated? You have to sit back and take a look at what he does for his team and then you'll see where his value is at. IMO saying Chay is overrated would be equal to me saying Cheverie is overrated. (For the record, I don't think this but just for a hypothetical) Look at the value both guys are to their teams.

I'm not ready to parade yet... there is another game that is just as important as the first one.

Not having Genoway on the ice last night made zero difference in the whole equation because the Pioneers were without Wiercioch. Basically, two of the top defensemen in the WCHA being absent kinda cancels out any advantage the other team might've had.

Jordan said...

The Weircioch-Genoway scenario is that they both move the puck so well and both PP's struggled as a result.

Anonymous said...

Hey, Du...Act like u been there before.

Jordan said...

4:07- I'd love to. But given the past few years of injuries, departures, and simply put- tremendously talented teams that came up short, forgive us for being cautious about our optimism and more reserved about our smack than our green counterparts.

Anonymous said...

Jordon,
Apparently you are clueless to what that phrase means.

I'm just glad the game lived up to everything UND had hoped for.
