At the beginning of the season, depth was a big reason why the University of Denver was going to have a great hockey team. The opening-night lineup was bound to change, time and again. But personally, I didn’t figure the numbers game would shake out this way.
Senior defenseman Cody Brookwell and sophomore wing Luke Salazar have been hanging out in the doghouse, watching games from the stands. Neither has played in the past four games (read rest of article).

As A New York Ranger fan, Luke Salazar reminds me of a one Petr Prucha. He was an undersized forward who had a fantastic rookie season, setting Ranger rookie goal records and almost was up for a Calder Trophy finalist nomination, all in part because he was placed on a line with future hall of famer Jaromir Jagr. The same can be said about Luke Salazar. He's an undersized player who had a fantastic freshman season, mostly in part because he was placed on a line with Tyler Bozak. If we look closer Salazar's production level dropped off quite a bit during Bozak's time out of the lineup last season as well.
Speaking of Bozak, he is out with the Swine Flu. He had recorded a point in four of his past seven games with the AHL Toronto Marlies. On November 20 he added a career-high three assists, with two of them coming on the power play. In 17 games this season, he has tallied 10 points (two goals, eight assists).
I hope to see Salazar & Brookwell back in the lineup soon.
Speaking of alums, what are Mannino, Dingle, Trotter and Fisher up to these days?
Trotter leads the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL in scoring with 19 points in 23 games. He has 5 goals and 14 assists.
Peter Mannino is 3-1-0 in 6 games for the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. He has a GAA of 1.69 and svs% of .944.
Ryna Dingle plays for the Adirondack Phantoms of the AHL and has 1 goal and 1 assist in 13 games.
Glenn Fisher plays for the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL. He is 1-5-0 in 6 games witha 3.02 GAA and .905 svs%.
What is with DU and the swine flu? Don't they teach you how to wash your hands at school?
