University of Denver Defenseman Matt Donovan and 2010 incoming DU recruit Jason Zucker have been invited to the on the USA Selection Camp. The camp takes place Dec. 17-19 in Grand Forks, N.D., and the 22-player roster will be named after an exhibition game against the Czech Republic on Dec. 22 in Regina, Saskatchewan.
The World Juniors run Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Regina and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. If Donovan makes Team USA, he will miss the Denver Cup, but not the Minnesota-Duluth series in December.
Zucker is a year younger than most of the players invited to the Camp, but his speed and versatility improve his chances of making the team. He recently signed a National Letter of Intent to attend DU in the Fall of 2010. Usually the USA will save a spot for an under-aged player to add experience to next year's squad, which may enhanse Zucker's chances of making the team.
Nebraska-Omaha coach Dean Blais is the U.S. coach, while Wisconsin assistant Mark Osiecki and Shattuck-St. Mary’s prep school hockey director Tom Ward are assistants. U.S. national goaltending coach Joe Exter, a former Merrimack goaltender, serves in that capacity for the team. Former Yale coach Tim Taylor is the director of player personnel.
