DU Defenseman Patrick Wiercioch, a second-round pick by the Ottawa Senators in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, has earned his second straight invite to the national junior team selection camp. DU Forward Joe Colborne was not invited, perhaps compromised by a broken finger from earlier in the season.

The DU defenseman is one of the 36 players invited to Team Canada's national selection camp in advance of the 2010 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

Hockey Canada announced the roster yesterday for the camp, which runs Dec. 12-16 in Regina. It is being used to choose the 22-man team which will attempt to bring Canada a sixth straight gold at the world juniors. The 2010 event begins Dec. 26 in Saskatoon and Regina.

For Wiercioch, the Senators' second-round pick (42nd overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, it represents a second straight invite to the final selection camp. He didn't make the roster for the Canadian team that ended up beating Sweden 5-1 in the 2009 WJC gold-medal game at Scotiabank Place.

The 19-year-old native of Maple Ridge, B.C., is currently in his sophomore season at the University of Denver. In 13 games for the Pioneers, Wiercioch has totaled two goals and 10 points.

He will miss the University of Minesota-Duluth series while attending the camp. Bulldog defenseman Dylan Olsen will also miss the series as he will be attending the Selection Camp with Wiercioch.
