DU 3 - Minnesota Duluth 2 FINAL

The University of Denver won an exciting game 3-2 at the University of Minnesota-Duluth on Friday night. Jesse Martin continued his recent strong play by scoring the first goal of the game. Martin now leads the team in shot percentage, even strength goals, assists, points and +/-.

Joe Colborne scored a power play goal late in the 2nd Period. Kyle Ostrow tallied the game winner on a power play goal with 12 minutes remaining in the game. Ostrow's goal was assisted by Tyler Ruegsegger, who recorded his 100th point as a Pioneer.

DU withstood a furious third period comeback that included a minute-thirty second 5 on 3 power play by UMD late in the game. As usual Marc Cheverie stoned several certain Bulldog scoring chances and was the hero of the game.

Another 3-4 point weekend would sure be nice heading into the holiday break. Hard to believe that the halfway point is already here.

Mighty DU will take all four points this weekend and will blow UMD out of the water.

Chevy was outstanding again.

Good night in the WCHA for DU. Pioneers pick up two points, while ties gave SCSU, CC, UND & Wisconsin only 1 point.

Besides leading DU in plus/minus and shot percentage, Martin also leads the Pioneers in even strength goals, assists and points.

Good road hockey effort for the Pios. Very unusual to have to kill a 5 on 3 so late in the game, but DU came through it behind Chevy.

These one goal games are so hard to listen to on the radio...

Thanks for the Martin stats. He's really stepping it up this season.

He's quietly emerged as a great player.

Unfortnately for DU, Martin is the only player making huge offensive strides from where he was last year. Everyone else is performing either as expected, or slightly below where they should be.

This team is still only scoring three goals a game. That's enough when Chevy is on fire, but it's going to mean a lot more white knuckle finishes if DU can't improve on 3 GPG.

DU up to #2 in Pairwise after Bemidi's lopsided loss to Minnesota State-Mankato.

Many DU players stats are seriously lagging behind last season. While its easy to call these players out, the problem is WCHA-wide. No teams are scoring much even strength.

The league's two highest scoring teams Wisconsin & CC are tearing it up on the power play.

Two of DU's three goals were on the power play again tonight.

Ruegsegger scored his 100th game point tonight. Yes it was a pass to Colburne. Way to go Rueggs!!
Congrats to Martin on a game well played.
