The most popular University of Denver hockey player right now appears to be the guy who was a healthy scratch in eight of the first 10 games. That would be hard-hitting John Ryder, a third-year sophomore defenseman from Colorado Springs who has emerged as a key contributor in a deep blue-line corps.
Despite playing in just half of DU's 16 games, the former walk-on is tied with John Lee with a team-high 76 hits. Ryder, DU's most physical and tenacious player, has learned to pick his spots when delivering the big hit, which has earned him more playing time (read rest of the article)

Ryder kicks ass.
Rakhshani`s offensive play notwithstanding, I thought Ryder was DU`s best player last weekend. He should certainly be in the lineup every night if he continues his outstanding defensive play.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know which defenseman lost the puck in front of Chevy last weekend that resulted in a goal?
Wow, kind of cool that the only 2 D1 hockey teams from Colorado, which also happen to be 2 of the best college teams in the USA... are both invading "The State of hockey" this weekend. Hope the "I-25 posse" tears Minnesota apart!!
Don't forget about the 2nd best college hockey team in the state down at the Air Force Academy. They host Mercyhurst this weekend. :-)
To me, Ryder is exactly what this DU team needs. A physical guy who can lay the lumber and who brings grit and nasty streak. He won't win any scoring titles, but he sure is a nice complement to the overall speed and finesse of the team.
Ryder is over rated
