How can there be a Cup awarded if Saturday's games are already set?
Did they just anticipate the expected match ups?
Idk. Just looking forward to 4 hockey games @ Magness this weekend.
Exactly it's not a tournament if everything is set.
They are using a "showcase" format this year. It means that the schedule is set.
This probably occurred because Boston College did not want to fly halfway across the country and not face DU.
Almost certainly DU wanted the prestige, tradition and excitement that bringing a name brand opponent like BC would provide, so they tweaked the format.
I'm guessing that they'll go with a "total goals differential" to award the trophy. ie-If two or more teams have the best record this weekend, goal differential will decide the winner.
lame...
AS my previous comments: this is P.C. nonsense!! The title Denver Cup , by definition, means a team wins it. How in hell can a team win a trophy, or for that matter lose a tournament, if they don't play it out fairly. Great, lets hand out ballots to the fans to see who is awarded the trophy. Or my previous comments, cut it up in four pieces and give everyone a trophy like they now do in little league. That way there are no losers either. Are we sure that Coombes doesn't have something to do with this? Next year they should at least change the title from denver Cup to Denver showcase or denver exhibition.
Well, I for one, hope to see St. Lawrence and UNO win thier games today. Just to point out how big of a farce this change in format really is. I guess I don't understand why they're even having double headers then. Might as well spread it out over 4 days and just put DU on Fri and Sat nights like usual. What a joke.
Right on Anon 956. To make it more interesting They could sell Brats and beer off of the Zamboni between periods
Fans may like the fun of a tourney format, but I am sure that Gwoz prefers to select his exact opponents for PWR reasons.
Scheduling for the PWR is an art form now...
