Denver Post: DU Has Two Hobey Candidates

As captain and the leading scorer of the NCAA's top-ranked team, and possessing sportsmanship and academic credentials, University of Denver senior wing Rhett Rakhshani embodies what the Hobey Baker Award stands for.

Voters for the national player-of-the-year award, however, will have a difficult time determining DU's best player, because the Pioneers' success also derives from Marc Cheverie. The junior goalie (19-3-3) leads the country with six shutouts and a .937 save percentage.

"Denver has two great superstars, definitely among the cream of the crop in college hockey this year," said Wally Shaver, Minnesota's radio announcer and a Hobey Baker Award Foundation committee member. "And when you have two outstanding guys from the same team, you usually have good results." (read rest of article)

The selfish part of me says Rhett because he's a senior and I'm clinging onto the single thread of hope that I get to see Marky-Marc play here again next year. It'd be a nice way to graduate for RR. If they gave it to my favorite Goalie... I'm afraid that would put him on the fast track right out of Denver.......

Very good points, 11:53. Another thing to consider: Which player is more vital to his team`s success? We got a glimpse of life without Chevy for a few games early in the season. Rakh hasn`t missed a game this year.
This weekend, both players were crucial. Chevy had another solid road trip, allowing only 4 for the weekend and saving 64, including a biggie moments before the OT winner. Rakh had a hand in 5 of the 7 DU goals, including the dramatic winner on Saturday.
Right now it`s tough to pick one over the other!
