DU 4 - Mercyhurst 1 FINAL

(above) DU's Anthony Maiani had a goal & two assists on Friday night

A fairly pedestrian game for the University of Denver as they rolled to a 4-1 victory over Mercyhurst College. The margin could have been greater as DU had 3 or 4 shots hit the post during the game. The Pioneers had a decided edge in shots, power plays and controlled most of the action until 5 minutes left the 3rd Period, when Mercyhurst finally scored.

Goaltender Adam Murray played well, giving up just one goal and Anthony Maiani recorded three points including a goal and two assists. Chris Knowlton, Luke Salazar & Joe Colborne scored goals for DU.

A Michigan Tech upset of Minnesota-Duluth and a tie between UAA & St. Cloud enabled the Pioneers to remain in First Place in the WCHA by one point over both UMD & SCSU.

How'd we let Mercyhurst score??

Even Cupcakes can score the odd goal.

Cupcakes for sure-should of been at least a touchdown on the board. AF game is going to be a real hockey game--that was a walk through the Hostess factory.

Gwozdecky said postgame that DU is expecting a 60 or 65 minute slugfest down there tomorrow night. Air Force is going to have a sellout and the crowd is going to be pumped up.

A solid if unspectacular victory for DU tonight over a game but clearly overmatched Mercyhurst squad. That game could have been 9-1. Nice to see Murray get a victory and some of DU's reserves get some substantial ice time.

Air Force will be a tough opponent tomorrow.

Adam almost kept the doughnut on the scoreboard; but a well-needed and well-deserved W for him. Was nice to see Sally get a goal, too. The Lakers have some little players; a couple of thier guys barely came up to the sternums of some of Denver's players.

I watched Murray closely the whole game. He played with confidence. A very different guy from what we saw early on. this was an important investment that Gwaz. made. both for this year if chev. gets hurt and for next year if chev leaves.

A sell out at Cadet Ice Arena. Is that all 9 posters on this thread and their cousins?

I'm really looking for the meeting with Air Force tomorrow. Thanks Puck Swami for hooking me and Amy up with tickets. We owe ya.

Murray looked pretty solid, and the game wasn't as close as the score indicated.

Great to see Salazar bag one, and Knowlton even got some PP time.

Pios took care of business, and now they get ready to play a tough one tomorrow - one of the biggest games of the season for AFA, and DU will need to be into it from the drop of the puck.

No problem! I just wanted to make sure the tix went to DU fans, and you two are as loyal as they come.

Cheer loud for me!

One of the M guys was after Drew Shore all night. The one who served the matching penalty. I noticed even in the handshake line, the Ref stood right beside that dude all the way, as if he was expecting him to jump Shore or some crap like that....

Noble was his name. He was hot over there in corner when they were going after each other.

Murray did make some pretty good saves tonight so hopefully that starts to give him a lot more confidence.

@ Puck Swami...
Thanks for the tickets! :)

Chevy's starting tonight against Air Force and if he has a big game, will add credence that resting the big guy down the stretch will only benefit DU in the NCAA's.

Gwoz seemed to imply in the pre-game that Murray may not start again this season.

Don't let the Pairwise or WCHA race cloud this team's ultimate goal, winning the NCAA's. Consider starting Murray against Michigan Tech and/or the final game against CC. As long as he continues to win and play well, I'd keep sending him out there.

Doesn't Chevy in goal give DU the best chnace chance to win every night?

What's up with Ryder Truck? Is he in the doghouse?

dggoddard said...

Ryder played well on Saturday night. Must be just a numbers game on the defensive end.
