Bad Boyz: Two Mercyhurst Hockey Players Busted

Erie police have charged two Mercyhurst College freshmen hockey players with sexually assaulting a woman on campus.

Jordan Tibbett and Kyle Just, both 20, were arraigned before Erie 3rd Ward District Judge Tom Carney Tuesday on a felony count of sexual assault.

Erie police accused Tibbett and Just of sexually assaulting a woman, and forcing her to perform a sex act on them, in a Briggs Avenue apartment on the Mercyhurst campus on Nov. 14, according to the criminal complaints filed in the case.

Tibbett and Just, both listed as freshmen at Mercyhurst, were each released on $10,000 unsecured bond [believed to be a Bad Boyz record bail] after their arraignments.

DU 4 - Mercyhurst 1 FINAL

(above) DU's Anthony Maiani had a goal & two assists on Friday night

A fairly pedestrian game for the University of Denver as they rolled to a 4-1 victory over Mercyhurst College. The margin could have been greater as DU had 3 or 4 shots hit the post during the game. The Pioneers had a decided edge in shots, power plays and controlled most of the action until 5 minutes left the 3rd Period, when Mercyhurst finally scored.

Goaltender Adam Murray played well, giving up just one goal and Anthony Maiani recorded three points including a goal and two assists. Chris Knowlton, Luke Salazar & Joe Colborne scored goals for DU.

A Michigan Tech upset of Minnesota-Duluth and a tie between UAA & St. Cloud enabled the Pioneers to remain in First Place in the WCHA by one point over both UMD & SCSU.

Denver Post: Air Force Has Hands Full

Colorado Springs Gazette: Big Weekend For Air Force & CC

Empty Student Section To Greet Players On Friday

Supposedly the University of Denver Student Section is going to be empty on Friday night as several hundred students are off to Winter Carnival. Ticket sales are so slow for the Mercyhurst game that DU is offering special $10 tickets to the public.

Its too bad the students won't be out in force this weekend. Needless to say the DU hockey team has seen two of the best students sections in the country in Wisconsin & North Dakota on their recent road trip. To come home to dead arena would be a tragedy.

HEY DU: How about FREE tickets to students on Friday night on a first come first serve basis? Maybe it will help soften the blow of Chancellor Coombe's impending tuition hike.

DU Has Glorified Bye Week

(left) Mmmm...Cupcakes

Wish we could tell you that this weekend's games against Mercyhurst & Air Force will be a "stern test" for the University of Denver hockey team, but if we did we'd be lying. This weekend has "cupcake" written all over it.

DU should get together with Hostess and give out 5,000 free Cup-Cakes, Ding-Dongs or Twinkees if the Pioneers fail to score five goals on Friday night against Mercyhurst. That would keep things interesting for two periods.

The American Hockey Association, of which Air Force & Mercyhurst are members, are 8-43-5 against non-conference opponents. Mercyhurst is 0-6-0 in non-conference games and Air Force is 0-4-0.

The Air Force game is more of a concern. Cadet Ice Arena will be sold out and they will be all pumped up to beat DU. They defeated Colorado College last year 4-1, DU 5-2 in 2008 and only lost to DU & CC by 2-1 scores in 2006-07. Luckily CC will soften them up on Friday night.

We'll guess that Murray will start on Friday. If he gets a shutout, why not trot him out against Air Force? Keep the Chevy in the garage.

We'll spend this week drumming up support for Boone on campus and keeping an eye on Chancellor Coombe as he attempts to jack-up tuition for the sixth straight year on the job.
