(above) DU's newest recruit tells us a little about himself
Several sites including No Alibis No Regrets (Wisconsin), Fargo Force Blog & U.S. Hockey Report (subscription site) are reporting that Fargo Force forward Garrett Allen has committed to the University of Denver. Allen a 5'11 170 lbs. forward from Delafield, Wisconsin, is said to have family connections in Colorado.
Allen is described as an up-and-coming forward who's college stock has been on the rise in recent weeks. He will attend DU in Fall of 2011. So far this season he has 15 goals and 13 assists in 38 games for the Force. To be averaging almost a point-a-game in his Rookie season in the USHL is very impressive indeed.
We're guessing that Allen can skate...really...fast. His aunt is five-time Olympic Gold Medalist, speed skater Bonnie Blair. Allen's uncle (Bonnie's husband), David Cruikshank was a USA Olympic speed skating sprinter and is currently a power skating trainer for hockey players from the NHL to elite junior players.
Colorado College, Wisconsin & Minnesota were reportedly in the hunt for Allen.

DU's 2011 class is filling up with solid meat & potatoes type recruits. With the exception of goaltender Sam Brittain, DU is still looking for a super-elite prospect.
With the timing of this announcement you have to wonder if Austin Czarnik is headed elsewhere.
DU's 2010 class might be the best ever and perhaps with another year of seasoning in Juniors we'll be saying the same thing about these guys.
There are a potential 10 seniors that will play for DU in 2010, assuming no one leaves early. So far that is only 4 players committed for 2011.

He has him rated higher than Czarnik
"In alphabetical order, here's who I feel are ten of the hottest prospects from the USHL...
Garrett Allen - F/92 - Fargo
Austin Coldwell - D/90 - Des Moines
Austin Czarnik - F/92 - USNTDP
Nick Ebert - D/94 - Waterloo
Connor Frick - D/92 - Des Moines
Dan Furlong - D/91 - Sioux Falls
Rocco Grimaldi - F/93 - USNTDP
Marek Hrbas - D/93 - Fargo
Michael Paliotta - D/93 - USNTDP
Matt Stewart - D/91 - Green Bay
Michael Voran - F/90 - Sioux Falls"
Check that, he has them ranked in alphabetical order so Garrett is ranked in the top 10 in the league as a college prospect.
The list is the Top 10 Uncommitted Prospects.
Some great articles over at http://www.westerncollegehockeyblog.com/ including an article about how North Dakota thinks hockey is more important than drunk driving. UND should be so proud.
Cool; they're stacking the sandwich for next year pretty high.....
Wow, people still read my blog?!
If I had to, I'd probably put Czarnik higher, but not by much. All of the forwards on that list have something different to offer. You landed a good one.
