DU 2 MTU 1 Final

The University of Denver defeated Michigan Tech 2-1 on Friday Night in a hard fought game to close in on their quest for the Final Five. Even though DU outshot MTU 40-20, Techplayed a close checking, tight game. Josh Robinson, the Tech goalie, was outstanding limiting DU to just 2 goals.

Jesse Martin put DU on the board at the 37 second mark of the 1st period. Assists were given to Anthony Maiani and Kyle Ostrow. On a weird play in which Marc Cheverie was screened, Carl Nielsen backhanded a puck towards the net and it trickled in to tie the game at one at the 15:31 mark.

Brian Gifford got the game winner and put DU up 2-1 at the 15:45 mark of the second with assists to Drew Shore and Chris Knowlton. There was no scoring in the 3rd period. DU is still #1 in Pairwise but it is oh so close with Miami.

Rankings don't mean shit now my friend!

oh i understand that, just saying that 5-28-1 team does not look like much of a "force from the north"

Oops. Looks like the "farce from the north" continued their winning ways.

DU wins, 2-1

DU is in final exams, and looked a little bit out of synch tonight, probably due to scrambled sleep and odd game day routine.

Tomorrow night, I expect them to be better.

2-1, give me a break, is that the best team in the country can muster.......flameout has begun

DU didn't play poorly. They outshot MTU 40-20 and Tech's goalie and PK were stellar.

They also rolled four lines for much of the night, and tommorrow. I think they'll get more out of the top line with more ice time.

The Pios will be fine.

Speaking of flameouts... hw did the Goofers and CC do tonight? That's what I thought. Add Don Lucia to the list of unemployed Americans.....

We will see how the Farce From The North does when they face their former coach Dean Blaise when he takes over at Minny and kicks their arse. Now that will be fun!

Not exactly a thing of beauty, but DU did just enough to beat a scrappy hard-nosed Tech team. The Pios definitely looked a bit tired and sluggish. Tech was Tech--tough, physical, and played hard every shift. That team really impresses me with their work ethic and spirit.

6-0 is going to haunt Minnesota for a long time. CC loses? The next check box is Boone's quest is almost fulfilled.

I just tried to login to CC's site to read about their loss last night. It says "Service Unavailable" Kind of sums up the season for our friends down south.

Gifford getting the game winner shows me how important the Seniors are going to be down the stretch.

Nice to see DU win without top guys on the score sheet. Robinson made big saves on Ruegs.

Having watched MTU play last weekend they have two really good goaltenders. The other kid Kevin Genoe is a pretty good goaltender as well.

I was kind of surprised Chad didn't play goalie last night. I bet he's in there tonight
