Fox 31 News Profiles Boone Mascot Debate

(above) More awesome publicity for our embattled mascot

On the night of the Colorado College "White-Out" game, Fox 31 News videographer Dave Althouse filmed Boone for six hours. He interviewed students, alumni and fans and captured some epic footage.

None of us could have imagined that we would have ever been so successful... I would have been happy for us to have hit a double... but this has been an out-of-the park, grand-slam...

Thank you to all of the alumni who ponied up with some cash to make this happen. Without you, it would have been impossible.

Think back to those that said it couldn't happen, that it wouldn't happen...

Scott (and his friends!) has/have done an amazing job. Way to go guys! I can't wait for you guys to join the ranks of alumni supporting the next student Boone.

I can't wait to see what personality and character the next student brings to Boone's persona.

In case there was any doubt remaining, we did it. Great job guys...

Thanks also to the DU Clarion and staff for all their great Boone coverage this year. They had photo and blurbs about Boone in almost every issue.

Funny, not a single person wrote in and complained.

To me, The Boone Debate symbolizes an administration that's out of touch with students, alumni and supporters of the University.

Front page story on the Post Sports Section about school spirit last week and Boone videography on Fox 31 this week.

Yeah, great job by all involved. I think one of the reasons DU wants no part of it... is money. I say that; but now, the financial outlay is more or less complete. It's probably liability as well. What if he tripped in the main lobby area and fell on top of some little toddler? Or if he offended some muslim in attendance?

The only thing I don't approve of is.... he already broke the Cardinal Sin of Mascotting... which is never, EVER unveil your identity under the fur. Never let anyone see you suiting up.... never be seen in half-costume. Sorta like the Superman/phone booth thing. You go in the dressing room in street clothes and come out as Boone. There is no in between. PERIOD!

This story will probably run again on channel 2 in Denver some time this week as well.

Now if a few people email this link to the Today Show, Bill O'Reilly and a few of the other cable shows, we might be able to take this story national.

Exposure, exposure, exposure. It works like compound interest.

To Anon 10:38 -

Scott has been in a very interesting situation in the past year with keeping Boone anonymous. The alumni really felt that for at least the first year, it was important for there to be a familiar face on campus who was heading this whole movement. He and his crew have done an incredible job with the task at hand and it would've been so much harder to do so if his identity wasn't known on campus. I'm not sure what they plan on doing in years down the road, but this is such a unique situation that I would imagine it would be next to impossible to keep Boone's identity a secret :-)

I think the whole Boone birth, developmenbt and 'movement' has been very transparent on this blog from day 1. The people at DU could see the funding, design, mascot camp, media coverage and launch plan take shape every day on their desktops. I think they appreciate that this whole thing has been done to stimulate schools spirit

Its been a fun project to be involved with and no doubt the best part is working with the students. Many others students have been involved besides those shown in the video.

Needless to say the alums who contributed to this project are pretty pumped up today.

Go DU
