while DU played a good hockey game last night, DU's fans were classless. Booing the students on senior night, singing over the national anthem, cheering when Howe went down...a classless showing by DU fans.
It's too damn bad for CC that their fans are not loud enough to drown out the booing of a group of DU fans. I would guess that 6000 fans cheering would be louder than 200 fans booing...but I guess not at CC.
So contestants on American Idol can "oversing" but DU students and fans aren't allowed to.
I agree with the previous comment. 80% of the DU fans in the Springs bought their tickets in the last week. Sell Out your damn arena a month ahead of time and it won't be an issue.
BTW, the CC Seniors were laughing at getting booed in their own barn.
There were about 300 DU fans in Springs last night, but they often outcheered the 7,000 CC fans. A pretty impressive performance for a DU fan base that is not known to be very loud or influential,
DU's fans were singing the national anthem, pure and simple. They, among a lot of other CC fans, just got slightly ahead of the singers, who had threw in unusual American-idol like trills, etc. I don't think any disrespect was intended nor intentional.
The senior night booing was a little tacky, certainly. It was a was small number of students and the CC players were clearly laughing on the ice.
I don't recall any DU cheering when Howe went down.
All in all, it was a night to member for DU fans, who saw their team put on a rare goalscoring show in the rivals' home arena. This is what makes a rivalry a rivalry, and the fan behavior was quite mild compared to past years, when all kinds of dead animals thrown on the ice and obscene banners were commonplace.
Here's another example of fans drowning out the National Anthem.

It's not like the DU fans was twisting the words or disrespecting the anthem. They sang the song word to word. I think more American idol wannabe singers disrespect the anthem more then what we did and that's including most *not all* our own anthem singers. They were loud and proud and hell I'd so like to see this carry over into future games.
And we didn't cheer when Howe went down. That's a North Dakota trait. We were having too much fun poking fun at a arena from the opening puck drop who acted like they attended a funeral.
The DU players told us they were able to hear us well and would like all students to know they enjoyed hearing us as much as they enjoyed blowing them out. We turned that into a home game with 6,000 + fans intimidated and dead silent.
Did you ever notice at the UND games.... they make thier Anthem "singers" stay up in the stands? That's because they're too stupid and drunk to navagate those treacherous 8 small steps down to ice level! So yeah - We may not have class - but we DO have some brooms that's have been used to sweep withing the last few months. And we got a Gold Pan, and a Denver Cup, and a McNaughton Cup.
CC fans were pathetic last night. We had to go to the CC student section and cheer for them (CC chants of course).
As one fan pointed out, they are lessening their carbon footprint from 3 zambonis by cutting back on winning.
As far as classless fans go, I believe UND holds that title every year. Drunk, obnoxious, fighting, bitter, a**holes who are getting really used to watching DU beat up on their team.
Let me just throw out a warning for anyone squeamish or those who dislike certain 4-letter words chanted vigorously by 20,000 heavily sauced college students in a stadium, that video I just posted may not be for you.
But clicking on other videos on the side links, I got a crazy idea. Maybe next year during the season (assuming they keep the pep band out of most games in Magness), instead of playing like alternative rock or lady gaga or whatever it is they play on the loudspeakers during TV timeouts and such, maybe throw on some of these classic singalong songs like "Build Me Up Buttercup" or "Sweet Caroline" or "Shout" or something like that. Just a thought. I mean watch any of those videos on youtube, looks like they're havin a great time and makin a lot of noise. You don't see that with Nickelback.
Once again, for the record, before you rip UND shouting Sioux at the end of the anthem, listen to the DU student section next time. Argument holds no water.

Don't put words in my mouth. When I referenced UND yelling Sioux during the national anthem, I was responding to Brandon's question: "What do we as North Dakota fans do that disrespects the game?" I NEVER said anything about what DU does or does not do. So it's your argument that holds no water.

Have some respect for the game, DU fans.
A North Dakota fan lecturing anyone on respecting the game is like O.J. teaching a class on Domestic Violence.
Here's a YouTube of Edmonton Oilers fans singing the Canadian National Anthem...LOUDLY & PROUDLY.

Goddard, it's not the fact that the DU student section was singing. It's the fact that they were blatantly singing over the national anthem.
And booing the seniors? Have some respect, man.
What do we as North Dakota fans do that disrespects the game? C'mon man, you're better than that. I know you are.
So UND fans don't yell "Sioux" over the national anthem?

I agree that the ND fans are the rudest in the league. I think every team in the WCHA would agree. The ND fans just have no life after hockey.
We should definitely bring the Blackhawks-style cheering out for the National Anthem at all home games next year. That would be soooooo sick.
I think that's a goal and challenge we should make to the student section from now on... Drown out the National Anthem!
Seriously, it's college.
Fat, drunk, and stupid are common properties of the fan base. If you want a quality family sport, watch professional Curling.

Good clean family fun compliments of UW-Madison Football! hahaha.
I love college sports.

Did Dubbie actually call CC fans pale on USCHO? Dude-get outside once in a while.
dubbie would probably spontaneously combust, probably like a sparkler on the 4th
