I was wondering what was taking so long. I expected the one or two game suspension. Seems to be par for the course.
Where is the NCAA on this?
The NCAA is only involved with eligibility issues and making the rules.
The conferences hire the referees, enforce the rules and set the punishments.
That is true of all NCAA sports, not just hockey.
WCHA press release announcing Malone's 1 game suspension.

Wasn't he due an automatic one game suspension anyway (for being assessed a game misconduct)?
I have to agree -- what the hell took them so long?
He wasn't automatically suspended cause it was a misconduct and not a disqualification
Meaningless slap on the wrist. The WCHA had a chance to take control of the problem and took the easy way out. If you make illegal contact to the head resulting in serious injury to an opposing player a minimum 3 game suspension then you will get the players/coaches attention and you won't see this again. When is the last time you saw 2 WCHA players actually drop the gloves and get into a knock down, drag out fight. They don't because they know the consequences. These dimwits running the WCHA will only take decisive action when a player ends up permanantly paralyzed.
