News & Notes From Around PioNation

The Denver Post has an article on the University of Denver hockey team and its many players from around the United States. DU only has four Canadians on the roster this season, which is probably the lowest number since Colorado College last won a National Championship in ice hockey (late Fifties).
----------
The US National Junior Team defeated Germany last night 4-0. DU's Drew Shore did not score for Team USA and Jason Zucker did not dress after sustaining a head injury in the last game against Slovakia. The U.S. (3-0) remained undefeated with one game remaining in the preliminary round. The Americans will face Switzerland (2-1) on Friday night in a game that could decide the winner of Group A and an automatic bid in the semifinals.
---------
The University of Denver will honor legendary head coach Murray Armstrong on Friday night. Armstrong died at the age of 94 on Dec. 8 after leading Denver to five NCAA championships and coached DU from 1956-1977. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 6 p.m. MT for the special pre-game ceremony. DU will recognized Armstrong and his accomplishments at approximately 6:05 p.m. MT. Fans are also encouraged to stay in their seats during the first intermission as the Pioneers will honor Armstrong with a 3-5 minute video tribute.
