MOSCOW, January 6 – Russian junior ice hockey team that won the world championship Wednesday will arrive in Moscow Saturday, a day after it was supposed to be back home initially, a spokesman for the Ice Hockey Federation of Russia said Thursday.

He said the team failed to board a domestic flight in the U.S. and it will leave for Moscow by two separate flights January 7.
[Heavy Russian Accent] “After successful finals against overconfident Canadian kapitalist dogs, our guys are overvhelmed with emotion thanks to gold they have von,” Valery Fesyuk, the executive director of the federation said. “That is vhy packing bags and stealing hotel items took extra time as team arrived at airport after certain delay.”

“Ve did everything in our power to help team leave for Moskva on time, but Amerikan secret police delayed departure. Ve expect Socialist komrades vho are in hurry to congratulate players on the occasion of greatest success back in Moskva” Fesyuk added.
U.S. mass media said earlier in the day the Delta airline refused to admit the entire Russian team aboard at Buffalo, NY, for a flight to Atlanta because of the players’ “unruly behavior”.

The Russian team won the finals over Canada 5-3, bringing the first victory to itself since 2003.

Rumor going around that Alex Ovechkin might have paid for the all night Russian party. Apparently he called the coach after the win and said "Have a great time, get anything you want, it's all on me". The team and their families ran up a $21,000 bill at a local restaurant/bar and Ovechkin picked up the tab.

Well if Ovechkin really wanted to be the hero, he should have hired a charter back to Moscow rather than sending his Komrads on a lowly commercial airline flight

Honestly, all of these kids are under 21, their parents and coaches should be in jail for providing alcohol...

Extraditing the coaches and parents responsible from Russia could be quite costly. And the Russian government may not be too eager to send several of its newest national heroes to the US of A to stand trial for a drinking age that is legal is Mother Russia. :-)

Besides if there's any city in America that could use $21,000 bar tabs to stimulate the local economy, its Buffalo.

What's the legal drinking age in Russia? It's 18!These kids were nursed on Stoli. Oops we just won a world championship, let's stop and check the local drinking laws!

Don't worry Pionners04. As I stated in article below, an investigation revealed that all of the Russians were in fact over 21. Their medals will be stripped later today.

Jail?

The Iraqi Information Minister said that no one was drinking alcohol.

He's good enough for me.

Pioneers04, don't act like the US kids wouldn't have gotten their party on given the same situation.

Jail? Aye, yi, yi.

Russian hockey officials doing shots on the ice... Canadian whiskey, no doubt!

1.20- Didn't hear a single story about US misbehaving last year when they won.

3:21- Canada's drinking age is lower.

The only "misbehaving" by the USA team was a locker-room song that was filmed and was a little bit mocking of the Candadians:

To be fair to Pioneers04, if Zach Parise had given the boyz a $20,000 dinner after the Gold Medal game last season, there's no telling what would have gone down. :-)

Lets see... These young men came from Russia and won the Gold Medal and now have to return to Russia. I think you would drink heavily also.

Could be worse, if you had to go home to Texas!

Let me tell you all something. Alcoholism in Russia and alot of the former USSR states is rampid. I've been there, and I know people from there. Alcoholism as we know it in the USA is just a drop in the bucket. It's sad... but what went down in Buffalo is nothing compared to what goes on elsewhere in Russia. Besides, it's justnot as fun to read about the Russian Worls Jr Champion Team raising hell, as it is to hear about. I dunno; say, St. Cloud STate student athletes, CC athletes or North Dakota Athletes...... I like the WCHA trash that gets dug up here... not Russian vodka drinkers

Chalk this one up to the triumph of American culture. There was a time that championship Russian hockey teams dressed and acted like prison guards. Now these kids drink, wear their hats backwards and barf on airplanes. Sounds like Saturday night at the ATO house to me. Not exactly high class, but hey, nobody's perfect. Besides, "we would have acted better if we'd actually won" isn't quite as memorable as Herbie's "your freakin' life" now is it?

the DU team gets cookies and milk after each win they would never ever have alocohol

Oh, To hell with these Commie bastards.... I want to know what becomes of that Jack-Wagon who nailed Jason? I'm sure they'll never cross paths again; which is truly sad in some ways. I'da loved to see that dumb-dumb get fuggin plastered by a US guy in retaliation.
