University of Denver recruit Joey LaLeggia picked up some more hardware on Tuesday. He was named BCHL Interior Conference MVP and Defensive Player of the Year.

LaLeggia scored 20 goals and added 62 assists in 58 games for the BCHL Penticton Vees this season.

LaLeggia will join his former Penticton teammate Beau Bennett on the University of Denver hockey team next season.

DU is going to be stacked on the blueline next season, provided Donovan sticks around.

J.R. Ryder will be a redshirt Senior.

Donovan-Lee
Makowski-Mayfield
Ryder-LaLeggia

Could be DU's best 6 defensemen ever.

Donovan's not leaving. He has too much yet to learn about playing defense. If he does, it will be a big mistake.
I agree, that six man defensive line up you have is very impressive.

Haven't heard much chatter on Long Island about Donovan making the jump to thr Isles organization after this season. I guess a lot of it depends upon their depth at D in Bridgeport. A lot of the young d-men are up with the big club right now and doing well. Streit, who has missed this entire season, is expected back next season. Another year at DU wouldn't hurt Matt and I would guess his leaving early would be a decision that both he and the Islanders are comfortable with. I have read that Rock will be given a shot to make the big club next season.

I would not be so quick to dismiss Phillips from the lineup. Very much improved.

Phillips has made serious improvements in his game as well.

I don't klnow what Ryder's plans are, but he likely has some choices to make. If Ryder graduates with his academic class this year, he may want to sign an AHL/ECHL deal with someone and give up his last year of eligibility, rather than stick aound DU and go grad school.

My mistake. Phillips should be on the list.

Sloppy, sloppy blogging today.

DU's blueline should indeed be formidable next year. I'm really looking forward to seeing Mayfield in a DU uniform. We need more guys back there who can be physical and knock someone down. I think Ryder has been great this year and hope we get him for one more season. He can really lay the lumber and brings a welcome nastiness and attitude to that group.

Completely agree that Donovan should return. Another year at DU should greatly accelerate his development. He's been an enigma this year, in my opinion. Flashes of brilliance interspersed with some foolish penalties, lack of focus, and some overall lazy play. He has a ton of talent but needs to put it all together.

I agree with Twister--Donovan has been an enigma. You don't know whether you'll see the good Dono or the bad Matt. Seems to lack the intensity we saw last year. If he leaves DU, it will be a year too early.
