DU 4 - UNO 2 FINAL

(above) Jason Zucker scores for DU

The University of Denver rebounded from a tough loss on Friday night to reclaim 2nd place in the WCHA. The 4-2 victory over the University of Nebraska-Omaha was witnessed by 11,504, the third largest crowd in UNO history at the Qwest Center.

DU finally scored the first goal of the game and took the lead three separate times. Jason Zucker scored twice, Drew Shore & Chris Knowlton added goals for the Pioneers. Goaltender Sam Brittain shut out the Mavericks over the last two periods.

The UNO hockey team wore special grey jerseys that they auctioned off during the game to raise money for the Leap-for-a-Cure brain cancer fundraiser.

Nice job Pios.

Pretty gutty performance. DU should jump up two spots to 5th in the Pairwise.

Nice win to get the split.. Lets not forget that the Mavericks split with North Dakota at North Dakota. Thet are a very good team with a very good coach.

Most impressive thing IMO is that DU had to play the top four other teams in the WCHA on the road this season and walked away 4-4-0.

DU will get UNO, UND, Minnesota and UMD at Magness next season so the shoe will be on the other foot.

Gutty split for the Pios.

Let's hope they can get on a roll heading into the playoffs.

Too bad playoffs are spring break time. Student section will be empty on Friday and it will just go downhill from there, especially if we need a Sunday game.

Huge victory tonight for the Pios. Hopefully the recent adversity makes these guys better and primed for a postseason run. This victory has to be a nice confidence builder.

DU can clinch 2nd place with two wins next weekend or a win and a UNO loss.

If needed, DU has the tiebreaker over Minnesota-Duluth. UMD & UNO play next weekend.

CC's tie with UMD on Saturday night was rather helpful.

Great Pioneer win to split the series last night. Just more proof they are indeed a team loaded with great talent. Excellent coaching and hard work should be enough to bring home the BIG PRIZE! Now Let's get busy and fill up those seats at Magness Arena w/loud & crazy fans!
