I assume DG will be buying a couple of tables and inviting some of his closest friends on the blog. I have already put it on my calendar.

I received DG’s invitation this morning. I’m as giddy as a schoolgirl.

Anonymous said...

It's because you are a school girl!

Anonymous said...

I am not sitting with school girls, there could be cops there

So is this a public event? If I buy 1 seat, where will I sit? Can I choose where I sit? To be honest I always thought this was a private affair, and you had to get a full table. I just might do this. Do they clank thier forks on the glasses like at a wedding??

Hey guys( gals too), if you are a Pio hockey fan, this is a no brainer. It's a great time. You get to talk to the die hard D.U. hockey fans and even give the coach ( what a treat ) some advice. The food is first rate and the senior speeches are sincere and heart warming. You get to appreciate that we here at D.U. have true student athletes in every sense of the word. It's the best 50 bucks you can spend and you will wonder why you didn't attend before.

I'm sure DG will be bringing the most prolific poster on the blog- this "Anoymous" fellow.

Last year Aluuum talked me into to going. It was fun. I was with Aluuum so he was able to mingle with the players, etc and I tagged along. Fun event to support the team. Aluuum, who's driving this year?

Aluuum said...

D.g. is coming up from houston and renting a limo so we can drink up.

Aluuum said...

The limo holds 8. The next five that sigh up get a free ride.

DU/CC Dad said...

Is the limo coming all the way up to Evergreen/Genesse?

miller said...

Wow a limo and free drinks. Count me in!

I'm sure most of you regulars on this great blog are excited to finally meet me. I'm looking forward to raising the curtain and showing my identity. In reality - I look just like you, in my crimson & gold! PLEASE come up and introduce yourself to me!!

Anonymous said...

Will you have a name tag that says anonymous?

dggoddard said...

OK. You've talked me into it. I just booked my plane tickets.

You guys should pay for my limo.

Use the link in the article to register and pay, then email Angel Field and tell her that you want to sit at the "LetsGoDU Tables." I'm guessing we'll fill two or three.

miller said...

Sounds good to me.

Anyway we can get Boone to join us?

dggoddard said...

Boone attendance announcement forthcoming.

Aluuum said...

Here's the drill for you new attendees. You behave yourself while sipping your first drink and talk nicey nice to the players ,coaches, and alum. Into your second drink you begin to express your opinion(s) to a few fellow alums that you know. By the time you finish your third beer or wine you have Gqoz in the corner telling him about a better way to play his lines ,and other wise advice. Gwoz has a secret hand signal that brings killer Miller or other muscle to "guide" you away. It works every time.
Then you spot Peg Doppes and tell her she had better sign Gwoz. ASAP. Same results.
I promise you will have a great time and they will always, from then on, know who you are. I know that for a fact.

I just received an email from DU hockey alum Rod Summers and they are looking for fans to help defray the cost player's meal. So if you sign up consider sponsoring a player.

Some of the 50-50 Raffle earnings will also be used to help sponsor this event.

DU hockey thanks you.

miller said...

Ok Aluum, I am going to follow you around all evening. I suppose if things get really out of hand Ryder could check me into the dessert table.

DU/CC Dad said...

OK, I'm signed up. Feeding a player...Let's get a bunch more of us to go...it's fun.

Boone couldn't make it to the hockey games. Why would he come to the Awards Banquet?

Anonymous said...

Is it a NCAA violation to buy a current player dinner? Didn't Reggie Bush get flagged for this among his other violations? I'm pretty sure it's a violation if you buy his family dinner and I know it's a violation in the recruitment of a prospect.

dggoddard said...

Clearly this is a donation to the university, which is not the same as taking the player down to McDonald's and buying him a Happy Meal.

Plus when you are sponsoring a player's meal you're not telling them which player.

This event usually costs somewhere around $20,000 to put on.

dggoddard said...

There are some really cheap fares into Denver that weekend. Check out Kayak.com

Anonymous said...

So the hockey players are all going anyway. Rod Summers' comment about defraying the cost player's meal was just a marketing scam?

dggoddard said...

Yep. This is a marketing scam to defraud DU hockey fans out of their paychecks. About halfway through the meal there will be a presentation on time share dorm room purchase opportunities available around campus.

If there is a cash bar, can you buy a player or his family a drink without violating NCAA rules?

dggoddard said...

Doubt players will be drinking.

dggoddard said...

Actually Rod Summers & Hockey Alums are playing a large role funding and promoting this event. From this month's Newsletter...

The Denver Hockey Alumni Association is getting more involved with the Denver Hockey Awards Banquet. Local members of the DHAA have rallied to raise sufficient funds to feed “hungry hockey players” at a cost of$50 each. Our goal is help defray the expense of the event, increase awareness and welcome graduating players into the Denver Hockey Alumni Association.

“The cost of the Awards Banquet far exceeds our fans expectation. “With the cost to feed the players, venue rental, audio visual and other presentation costs, the event can easily approach $20,000 dollars” said Denver Hockey Coach George Gwozdecky. “In years past we have had a sponsor to help off set the cost of the event; however they have been unable to continue their support. We are actively seeking a new sponsor, or a partial sponsor and I appreciate the DHAA’s offer to help participate this event. We will continue to look for other sponsors as well as solicit individual contributions to feed the players.

So it would or wouldn't be a violation if you bought Zucker's dad a beer and tried to talk him out of letting his son go pro?

dggoddard said...

I'm sure Zucker's dad would prefer $10,000 thank you notes.

Anonymous said...

Can I sit where Donovan was supposed to sit?

Anonymous said...

Will there be dancing girls in the limo? If so, sign me up.....

Anonymous said...

So you're saying buying Zucker's dad a drink would be a NCAA violation. Same as cash.

dggoddard said...

Chambers is reporting in his Blog today that they expect Zucker to return to DU.

If that's true, you'd be better off buying drinks for your favorite blogger and his posse of dancing girls that are supposedly going to be in the limo.

Anonymous said...

Wait a minute dancing girls, I thought they were school girls. Which is it, this is important.

Anonymous said...

Is it a violation? Ask the Buffs.
It cost them $100,000 and three scholarships.
