DU 3 - St. Cloud State 2

The University of Denver hockey team clinched second place in the WCHA with a 3-2 victory over St. Cloud State in Magness Arena.  Two third period goals, including a shorthanded goal by Kyle Ostrow provided the margin of victory.

Ostrow's goal not only was the game winner, but was his 100th career point at DU.

Jarrod Mermis scored an important first period goal that gave Denver an early lead and Drew Shore opened the third period with a huge goal.

The Pioneers will play Minnesota State next weekend in the WCHA playoffs in a best of three series.  DU moved up to 5th in the Pairwise rankings.  To show you how volatile the Pairwise is right now, DU was in 10th place before tonight's win was factored in.

How did jay-z turn out as scoring champion? Who won it, from what team?

I think the guy plays for the team that hasn't won a Frozen Four in over a decade

Frattin won it coming in the back door, just like Sue fans do with farm animals.

Congrats to the DU hockey team and staff on a GREAT regular season. So many come from behind victories and obviously the Jesse Martin injury.

Ostrow and Shore stepped up tonight in the third, and they were the difference-makers for DU. Those guys will need to keep playing well for DU to go anywhere. Shore's rocket was an NHL goal, and Ostrow's shortie breakaway was the dagger goal - a beautiful play that put him in the Pioneer Century Club/

Sammy got the job done tonight too, but there were plenty of shaky moments for him and I hope this restores confidence. At least he didn't give up the Fisher on the first shot.

Those Referees were about as proficient at thier jobs this weekend as Charlie Sheen is Amish. Terrible.

I hope young Mr. Zucker learned something tonight. He screwed himself out of getting that scoring title, single-handedly.

Sucks that Jason got kicked out. Not sure if he deserved the game misconduct, but that's why the stripes get paid to make the call, no matter how lousy Anderson and Shepard are. Did find it interesting that Swaider and Pedigo weren't the linesmen tonight. Anybody else notice Donovan's limited playing time in the first? Nice to see him sit. Showed some improvement and intensity but still made some bonehead plays, makes me wonder if he is playing injured, or just distracted with the opportunity to go to the next level. Great night for Ostrow and the seniors. Sammy looked really good for the most part. It just kills me that some nights we look like the best team in the nation and then other nights we get beat by Mich Tech. Nice to see Jesse improving, he seems to be better every time he makes an appearance.

Hard fought victory for DU last night over a very tough and competitive St. Cloud team. Really glad to see the seniors finish up the regular season in style.

St. Cloud really impressed me this weekend.

DU has gone through a tough stretch recently, but that's all water under the bridge now. It's time for postseason hockey, and everyone needs to take their game to the next level. The series vs Mankato is step 1.

There was nothing weird about Swiader and Pedigo not working last night. The WCHA basically has the Swiader/Pedi combo and Keltie/Staudte for the Colorado games...and with both DU and CC playing at home next week, they wanted both pairs to get action this week since both will be in action next week.

I believe the name is Keely. He wears no. 57 and lives here in Denver. He delivers a message to the C.C. fans whenever he is in the ice in the Springs with no. 57 on his back.

One guy that hasn't received the props he deserves is Nate dewhurst. I thought he was the hardest working guy on the ice last night. He was flying all over the place and made some creat hustle plays. By far his best effort in my opinion.

Never heard of this "Keely" guy, but Bob KELTIE worked the game last night.

I also really loved Dewhurst's effort level last night, but that fourth line still scares me whenever they play.

They get scored on a little too often for my liking, and their primary job is to not get scored on while others rest.

I see DG is still being PC and deleting posts.

@ anon 4:32

I think DG is fair. He only deletes my posts that contain profanity or are overly vulgar.

It's Dg's blog he can do what he wants. He's a man of his word.

So is the Chancellor. Hopefully Zucker and DG learned something.

Good game good win. Glad to see Kyle Ostrow get the Century club with that great goal. Shore's goal was insane! Now maybe some momentum!
