Rhett Rakhshani Named to AHL All-Rookie Team

The American Hockey League has announced that DU Alum and Bridgeport Sound Tigers forward Rhett Rakhshani has been named to the 2010-11 AHL All-Rookie Team.  Rakhshani was one of only six players named to the AHL All-Rookie Team.

Rakhshani, 23, earns his second notable league honor this season after representing the Sound Tigers at the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic earlier this season. The Islanders fourth-round pick (100th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft currently leads the Sound Tigers in goals (20), assists (35) and points (55), and is best among AHL rookies in assists, points, and power-play goals (10). In addition, Rakhshani recorded his first professional hat trick against Portland on Mar. 25, 2011, surpassing Jeremy Colliton’s team record for points in a season by a rookie (53). The Huntington Beach, Calif. native has also enjoyed two separate seven-game scoring streaks as well as a six-game multi-point streak and made his NHL debut this season, appearing in two contests with the New York Islanders.

great news i didn't know he was doing that well.

just as is the case with every other DU player that signs a pro contract, there was a string comments last year that all read along the lines of: "hope is has fun playing in the ECHL for the rest of his career"

haters gonna hate

Lets hope that Kyle Ostrow has similar success next season. Like Rhett, Kyle did a fantastic job as captain.

Just curious, has Kyle been drafted to a team?

No. He's an unrestricted Free Agent.

Good for Rhett!

Many of these general negative comments about playing below the NHL are off the mark. First off, the AHL is a heck of a lot higher than ECHL (some poster on other threads seems to confuse them). Even if you spend most of your career in the AHL and rarely get called up, you are still being paid to play, and frequently better than any of us will ever make (according to THN, Rhett's salary is 850K, I know entry contracts can have confusing pay structure, but anywhere in this ball park is darn good money)

Anyway, congrats to him! Hopefully see you in the NHL some more.

I would bet that 850k is based on a two way(when in Nhl). That said he might be at 60-80k when in AHL. Nothing wrong with that money.

He for sure is not making 850k. Other poster is correct 60k-80k. He has the chance at 850k if he gets called up to the show.
