University of Denver junior Mark Matthews and sophomore Chase Carraro had three goals apiece en route to the Pioneers' 14-7 victory over Air Force on Saturday afternoon in front of a sellout, standing-room only crowd of 2,100 at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

"Air Force is a tough team, but we came together in this one. When our defense failed our offense was there to pick them up. When our offense failed our defense was there," head coach Bill Tierney said. "We are starting to gel as a team, but we need to keep getting these ECAC wins."

Denver jumped to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the ECAC with its third win in a row. Air Force falls to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the ECAC. The Pioneers are now 12-2 all-time against the Falcons in NCAA Division I.

Junior Alex Demopoulos had three assists and two goals in the win. Senior Andrew Lay added two goals and an assist for the Pioneers. Carraro won 18 of 23 faceoffs and grabbed nine ground balls for Denver. Freshman Jamie Faus made nine saves in the win.
