Not 100% sure but fairly certain this is the correct formula and order of games.
Honestly, I just want DU to get through next weekend without injury and be ready for NCAA play. As long as they play hard, I really don't care how they do from a results standpoint at the Final 5.
The NCAAs are what counts. I want DU to win some NCAA games so DU will sign Gwoz to a new deal.
DU will probably play the early game Friday. The Gophers always get the late game on Friday, but when they don't make it, the highest seed gets the late Friday semifinal. I really wish I could go, this tourney is always so much fun -- and the WCHA hosts a hospitality suite all weekend with all you can drink free alcohol.
this might be a stupid question but...what happens to the venue of the Final Five if/when Minnesota leaves the WCHA?
It seems like it wouldn't make sense to have it in St. Paul anymore if Minnesota isn't in the league anymore.
Then again, I guess the entire make up of the tournament would be different. There probably wouldn't even be a "Final Five" anymore
I'm not sure anyone knows what will happen with the Final 5 when Minnesota & Wisconsin leave in 2014.
What we do know.
* CC Athletic Director Ken Ralph said last week that MN & WI will leave the WCHA.
* The WCHA has hired a consultant to advise them on a plan moving forward.
One of three things will certainly happen in 2014.
1). The WCHA will exist with 10 teams.
2). The WCHA will expand by two teams (Likely suspects Miami, Notre Dame, Northern Michigan).
3). Some WCHA teams will leave and form new conferences.
With our Honorable Comissioner residing here in Denver, Colorado......they should dump Red Baron Pizza, move the Final Five to the Pepsi Center and Quiznos should step up and take marqueee sponsorship. While they're at it - send the Shepherd family and thier buddy Anderson over to this new fancy Big 10 league....OMG - they'll love those guys :)
Better yet, send the Shepherds and Anderson to Russia. We don't want to risk ever seeing them aguin!!!
Would LOVE to see Miami and ND in our conference ... that makes so much sense for both teams and for the WCHA.
Colorado College comes from behind to defeat Wisconsin 2-1 on Sunday night to punch their ticket to St. Paul.
Guess we will be seeing some playoff highlights at CC next season. Maybe then they will stop with the CC hitting or scoring on DU montage.
Congrats to CC for the opportunity to hang another participation banner...
Say what you want about CC but they are a dangerous team with Schwartz back.
I'd just like to say that I live in Minneapolis, and I'm totally okay with the Final Five moving to the Pepsi Center when Wisco and Minny leave. I love Denver... and Pepsi Center has Dipping Dots.
Great suggestion by anon. Form a new conference with Notre dame, Miami, N.D.,C.C. and hold the playoffs at the Pepsi center. it would work!
And yes, send Anderson to the big ten with his kiss off teams Minn. and awisc.
Also Swam has it right. The Mcnoughtin cup is of little value, as long as we play well it's all about being at the top of our game for the first N.C.A.A. game in two weeks. Gwaz has already said as much.
I would like to send an email/letter to the WCHA commissioner and complain about Anderson.
Does anyone have his contact information?
This conference can do a lot better!
Miller, --Anderson is deep in the political clique. He's untouchable. Get ready to boo him again next year.He will return.
Aluum
I know it's hard to fight "city hall" but after watching the game Sat night we just can't just sit back and allow Anderson to continue.
I know Gwoz can't say something but we can.
There have been previous attempts by DU to host the 5 in Denver. Why has Denver been denied? Attendance. We barely had a 1/2-full arena for either game this past weekend. Omaha probably has a better chance -- nice, big arena and stronger overall support. Grand Forks would be an option, though Engelstadt is too small and I'm not sure if they have a 15 or 16,000+ seat arena or not. Probably not.
Out of all the possibilities, I seem to hear about DU leaving the WCHA more than anything else. I would look out for DU and UND to team up and lead the way on the formation of a new conference, though anything can happen at this point. I've also heard about the Big 10 possibly offering spots to non-Big 10 schools, with Notre Dame and Miami being brought up. This season has been a treasure trove of rumors ever since the Penn St announcement...

I forgot Omaha to add to the new league.
You might be right on holding it in Omaha. First of all it is more centrally located to Notre Dame and Miami. it has a big modern arena with enthusiastic fans and the Notre Dame Alumni from the chicago area alone would half fill the place.
Get that uber rich investor who owns Berkshire and lives in Omaha to sponser using the name Berkshire. it would be chump change for him and he loves Omaha.

Omaha also has precedence in that they have held the NCAA college world series there for many, many years. They know how to hold a college tournament and would be a good choice.
I concur with the idea of moving the Final Five from Xcel Energy Center to the Pepsi Center. There would still be enough Sioux fans to fill the Pepsi Center as there are in Minny.
Even Goon thinks Anderson needs to go:

I think Ralph Engelstad Arena would be a fantastic setting for the Final 5, but the one big down fall is the the immediate area around Grand Forks; meaning the lack of hotels and "touristy" type of attractions, restaraunts, etc and limited air travel options. If it ever moved from Minny, Denver really would be ideal.

A six team league is a bit light. Eight would be much better. Which two schools would be the best candidates?
It seems to be that I mostly heard about DU, UMD and UND sticking together as they sort of consider themselves to be the creme of the current WCHA. Miami is the 4th team usually included with that group and there needs to be a core of 6 teams to be the basis of any conference -- then they can add from there (generally going to 8, 10 or 12) or stay at 6.
The most interesting option I heard was the possibility of adding in some eastern powerhouses, in order to form an East/West Super Conference. Essentially, the WCHA-Hockey East interlinking schedules of the mid-late '80s was the same thing, just with way too many teams.
Something else that is kind of surprising is that CC hardly ever came up in the talks. It doesn't appear that CC would necessarily be invited to this "Big Boys Club". DU would obviously still play them, however it has sounded like it could be more like how DU schedules the AFA nowadays.
It is going to be interesting, to say the least, how all this actually pans out.
CC goes wherever DU goes. Bank it.
They may, they may not. If there's a new conference, rest assured DU will be a founding member and CC will not. It then would be up to DU and the other core teams of the conference to decide who to offer spots to. One team's rivalry will not be the other teams' primary concerns...
C.C. will always be wanted in the league by D.U.
ONE REASON: we sell out the arena when they play us.
