Donovan Replacement OTW-Chambers Ain't Talking

Mike Chambers Blog has three recruiting notes that will impact the team next season.  The biggest news is that a big name defensive recruit will commit to the University of Denver in the near future.

He also mentioned that the "Doremus to DU in 2011" rumor is not true...for now.
Heisenberg's Recruiting Website is incorrect, Matt Van Voorhis will play in the USHL next season.

Check out Chambers article and if you are the first poster to guess who the mystery recruit is in the "Comments Section" below, we'll ship you a free Boone Poster.

Chambers thinks he can outwit PioNation? We'll see about that. :-)

A "big name" d-man out there could be Nolan Zajac who plays in the USHL. Zajac is a pretty "big name"...

I have a feeling it's Seth Jones....Because all other top draft eligible defenseman (unless there's a David Makowski out there) have signed with teams already.

Ok here are my top 3 if this is allowed:
1. Seth Jones
2. Jacob Trouba
3. Nolan Zajac

Did Seth Jones graduate high school early? Or something? He just turned 17 last month, I believe... a 3/94 birthday...

Has Trouba mentioned interest in DU? I thought he was between Mich and Notre Dame. Would love to get him.

Nolan Zajac would seem to fit the profile.

* Father played at DU.

* Denver has a pipeline with Cedar Rapids Dmen (Donovan, Phillips & Josiah Didier).

* Leads the team in +/-.

**** I'm sure DU would love to snatch a potential UND recruit.

More UND jealousy......DG,get over it.

I stand behind my vote for Zajac. Chambers did not say it was a "big time" player, he said it was a "big NAME" player. While I'm sure he's a solid player, "big time" and true impact players generally aren't available right now for the next season, which is why I went by the 'NAME' portion of Mr Chambers' entry.

My number 2 choice would be Tyler Amburgey. He is a former NTDP defenseman who went to the USHL for more seasoning and DU was somewhat linked to him a couple of years ago. I think he's pretty big and from Texas.

Shouldn't DU be focused on offensive recruits?

Mayfield and Laleggia will more than replace Nutini and Donovan.

But who replaces Ostrow and Maiani? Allen? Larrazza? Seems like much more of a stretch...

Losing Maiani & Ostrow will be tough, but you'd have to expect big jumps in production from Nick Shore and Beau Bennett.

Off topic - I was anti Twitter but signed up a while back for Matt Carle and his charity. I follow Carle and Bozak now. They are both always posting about DU (DG has posted several of them). I've been meaning to look up other former DU players too.

After Dono left there's the annual talk about the DU team not living up to their potential because the "elite" players have their eyes on the NHL and don't give everything they have to DU.

I've called bs before, and I'm doing it again. Bozak left after his sophmore season and is constantly Tweeting about DU and players on the team. Just recently, congratulated Maiani on his first pro game, mentioned Jumbo Joe scoring a goal for the Marlies.

Does that really sound like a player that didn't care about DU and his teammates? These guys give everything they have to DU while they are here and form bonds that last a lifetime.

I'm fine with criticism, but it bugs me when people question the players' drive and commitment.

I was going to guess Seth Jones, but Nolan Zajac makes sense. Which is the most important big or name??

Anonymous said...

I hope Seth Jones. Isn't Zajac about 5'8? We need more size......

dggoddard said...

Its not Zajac!!!

Does Scott Stevens have son on the way to DU!?

Anonymous said...

Can't be Seth Jones. His b-day is actually 10/94...he's still 16 and would turn 17 right at the beginning of the season.

Hmmmm....maybe somebody is pulling a "Traitoire" or a Wiercioch and de-committing from somewhere.

dggoddard said...

That was my first thought.

It would help explain the secrecy of not wanting to say anything right away...

Shore is staying!!

Awesome.

Is it shore the youngest?
Or is he 17?

dggoddard said...

Scott Stevens son Ryan is a Freshman at Harvard. He played in just five games this season.

I believe the Shore brothers are all forwards. Quentin is on the USNDP Under 17 team.

Baker is quite a bit younger.

Complete toolshed.

LOL...wouldn't it be something if Jordan Schmaltz were breaking off his fighting susans commitment to come to DU.
