Awesome. They sold out the grandstand in less than 24 hours.

If DU becomes an NCAA tourney fixture under Tierney, I think DU is going to want to raise some money to expand Barton to at least 4-5,000 seats. Perhaps they could put an upper deck on the current Barton south stand, and/or new a North Grand Stand near the cable center, and/or seating at the West or East ends, or perhaps even bleachers on the roof of Halls Dining Hall, which would remove a few trees....

In an NHL Draft note, Scott Mayfield, Nick Shore, and Zac Larazza have all been invited to participate in the 2011 NHL Scouting Combine from May 30-June 4.

Anon at 3:45. Completely agree. Never understood why they only built one side to a 'stadium' ... same thing with soccer stadium. And don't give me city zoning bs for excuse.

it might have something to do with blocking the view of the first floor in the Cable center. D.U. does not own that building.

It probably also had to do with money. The current Barton cost $5-7 million back in 2005 when it was built. Probaby would have been at least $10 million to build out grandstands on both sides.

At that time, there was no Bill Tierney at DU, and seating 2,000-3,000 seemed appropriate, as that is what most D-I programs draw.

Hey guys, I'm a student at DU who wasn't able to snag a ticket in time. Anybody here have an extra or know of someone who does? I'll pay a pretty price. I know a few students who are in similar situations too.

Please email me at none.of.the.above.91@gmail.com if you have any information. Thanks, and go Pios!

Does anyone have Lax attendance figures for this year?

Garrett:

I hear DU is looking into bringing in some temporary bleachers to seat more people.

We should know more soon if the NCAA clears the DU request.

DU averaged about 1,600 fans at home this year, including the game at Mile High.

I don't think DU will enlarge Barton until that average is over 2,000 per game.

Thanks, what was the attendance at the Invesco game?

The Invesco game was about 3,300 this year, up from 2,600 last year.

Overall, DU is up about 600 fans per home game on average over last year, from 1032 per game in 2010 to 1,612 this year to date. With an NCAA victory this Sunday, I sould see DU pushing 2,000 fans or more per game next year easily.

Does anyone know the capacity for the soccer stadium? Looks like they could add a bunch of temporary bleachers on the west side of the field.

The soccer stadium, like Barton holds about 2,000 on the East side.

Big problem there is the grass field. Pretty sure the NCAA wants D-I lax played on artificial turf.

I can easliy see DU needing to build a 100,000 plus stadium for lax. Just like the big house for MI football
