Colorado Springs Will Host NCHC Headquarters

(above) The National Collegiate Hockey Conference Headquarters will be housed on the grounds of the El Pomar Foundation and the former estate of Colorado philanthropist Spencer Penrose
The new National Collegiate Hockey Conference, which will begin competition in the 2013-14 season, announced today that it will locate its headquarters office in Colorado Springs.

The conference athletic directors accepted an invitation from El Pomar Foundation and determined the Conference's first commissioner and staff will operate all functions of league administration from the Colorado Springs office in the Copper Building (1631 Mesa Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO, 80906), adjacent to the grounds of the world-famous Broadmoor Hotel.

Great, NOT!

What's wrong with this arrangement? El Pomar has a long history of supporting college hockey and there might not even be college hockey in Colorado without the Foundation.

My first inkling, was to post a smart-ass comment about being so close to the worst team of the new league, CC.... but not withstanding that....I think it will be good, and a nice change from the twisted WCHA leadership that Denver has been inadvertently married to for so long. It's got to be awkward at times, for DU to have Commish McLeod breathing down your neck, and side-stepping questions and lackluster officiating when the "Sheps" are in town working games as well. I say screw it; let's get to playing hockey here at DU - let CC be the Teacher's Pet for a while with the new league and it's Commisioner and staff. Still, good to have the office in Colorado, I guess. I really didn't expect them wanting to be living in Duluth or Grand Forx........But Colorado Springs does not have the easy airline options that Denver offers either

The Post says that the Pepsi Center is on the list of possible tournament venues. Any idea on what other locations are in play? It would be great to see what kind of attendance the Pepsi Center would get considering DU and CC will likely be in the tourney each year (at least in a 6 team league).

The Colorado Springs airport is just fine. Have you ever even been to Colorado Springs?

I think DG was right on. The BM Hotel/surrounding areas are world class. I'm sure most anyone on earth would love to have an office there.

Not to mention the role C/S holds in the sport we love. DU fans can hate all they want but C/S is a Mecca in college hockey.

The El Pomar and Penrose family are our prophets...

Meet me at the Bee and buy me a beer... bitch...

hate to agree with mexico, but the Broadmoor area IS world class (...The rest of CS? Meh...) However much CC does suck, Colorado Springs is quite important to the history of college hockey. Trust me, people, DU most likely would not have college hockey without El Pomar and (sigh) CC.

Omaha would be FANTASTIC for the league tourney...it's not a bad drive (a bit boring...) and Omaha (while I would not live there) is really kind of a neat, little city with some charm and they have preserved a lot of their historic buildings...plus, games in Omaha are definitely fun.

Omha is a slam dunk for the tournament if they care about student attendence. A college tournament is all about student noise and obnoxious behavior. Omaha is the only central location that is within 500 to 600 miles of all the other schools( including Notre dame and Western Mich.). All the other schools are "edge" schools and over 1,000 miles driving distance.

I think this is the first time that Mexico has added anything of value to a conversation. Nice change.

So what's the deal at Denver? Are there any LetsGoDU insurgents on the ground this week at the DU Pro Camp? I see admission is free, but haven't really heard of any credible first hand reports or seen any candid photos or video, other than what the school is posting. I thought you hard cores on here would have more juicy gossip

Watch out with those yards at the bee. CCTig might puke on you.

The entire metro area is amassed in a giant circle jerk. It’s rumored that DG and other DU alum are scheduled to fly in and eat the biscuit sometime Friday morning. All of the DPS school system has been on lockdown since yesterday afternoon. Stay tuned for details…
