DU 10 - Minnesota State 2 Final

(above) Its was a busy night for Mega-Boone in the student section
The University of Denver hosted a hockey clinic on Saturday night at Magness Arena emphasising flashy passing, nifty moves and goals from every conceivable angle.  When it was over, DU had swamped the undermanned Minnesota State Mavericks 10-2.

DU led 2-0 at the first intermission. They then scored five goals in the second period to take a 7-0 lead.

The Pioneers stretched the lead to 8-0 before the Mavericks responded with two power play goals in the third period amid some sloppy DU play. Denver is now 3-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the WCHA.
Three Stars
First Star: Shawn Ostrow (Denver)
Second Star: Jason Zucker (Denver)
Third Star: Joey LaLeggia (Denver)

I had to do a double-take in this mornings' Denver Post. WTF? At least in my paper, they printed Friday night's game recap story in error. I had to think about it for a second - I knew I didn't drink THAT much!!!

Those referees this weekend almost had me missing Anderson.

They were horrible. Shepard and Anderson look like shining stars compared to these jokers. Justin Brown and Tom Sterns should go back and ref high school hockey. I think the game was too fast for them. It was nice meeting you last night Damien. First post here.

wow, what an epic screw up ... same in my Denver Post, they ran Friday's story.

Obviously a pretty incredible Homecoming Weekend for our student section, out great fans, our hockey team and the everyone who has brought Boone back to life on campus.

DU is undefeated with Mega-Boone™ in the house, so it might be a good idea for the students to keep the new found tradition of passing the banner around after goals.

Looks like Mega-Boone switched MSU from "suck" to "blow". (Couldn't resist a Spaceballs reference... Haha)

Happy to see Ostrow score 2 goals, I'm always rooting for that kid

I find it hard and amazing to complain about refs when you win 10-2.... But holy crap they were terrible. All that aside, after Friday's game I thought the penalty kill needed work. After 2 shorties last night and a ton of goals, all I can say is wow!

I enjoyed the "double digits" cheer from the student section as well. Solid weekend!

Mega-Boone represents a new level for the DU student section - adding huge visuals like to the cheering and the band will no doubt lead to performance increases by the team and more victories...

Spirit makes a difference...

George Gwozdecky continues to raise the bar and BE the standard by which all ice hockey coaches are judged, when it come to in-game antics and getting his team's attention. What the hell does this guy have up his sleeve?? Love it!

Anybody know when they will have the full game on pioneer vision. Couldn't watch game last night.

@ 2:02

How many coaches seize the moment (during a destruction of the opponent nonetheless) to lecture on their efforts? Yeah, Gwoz is special and this team will be special.

When his boys started riding the 8-0 score and take a bunch of lazy penelties the Gwoz. really gave them an ass reaming lecture. My guess is that part of his spiel was about letting Adam down from getting his well deserved shutout.

Its the Post what do you expect?

the post provides pretty lame coverage. what a joke. chambers was even there as was frei, i believe. du is probably mad at those weasels for throwing them under the bus recently anyhow.

The sports coverage for DU Hockey in Denver is the worst. The excuse is that there isn't a big enough fan base. We have something to be proud of to show the community but because it is successful, the press can't bash it so they ignore it.

Actually, DU coverage has never been better in the Post, and while we're still on page 14 most of the time due to all the other sports teams here in Denver, we still have a beat writer covering DU hockey. College hockey teams in other large cities such as Boston, Minneapolis and Detroit carry college hockey stories but no longer assign beat writers like the post does.

Charging and a game misconduct. Does anyone else find the call against Bennett hard to believe?
