The third-ranked University of Denver hockey team traveled across the country to face #1 Boston College on Friday night. In front of a packed house and a national television audience, the Pioneers displayed moxie and came away with a hard fought 4-2 victory.
The Pioneers took the lead on Jason Zucker's early goal in the first period. Beau Bennett, Drew Shore and David Makowski had DU's other three goals.
Eagles head coach Jerry York commended the Boston College fans for the raucous atmosphere inside the Conte Forum.
"The atmosphere was as loud and as [good of a] college hockey atmospheres that we've had here in a long time," York said in his postgame press conference. "It was a terrific place to play."
Adam Murray had an outstanding game in goal.

The questions about Adam's goaltending have been answered.
Absolutetly
Great balance between offense and super solid defense. We have so much talent.
Zuck'em Zucker.
Murray played with so much confidence. The BC people must have wondered, is this the sieve we've been reading about?
The defense looked awfully good. And Zucker's gonna have a monster year.
I noticed DU with very few defensive zone giveaways and the D didn't let BC get many good looks. Forecheck by the forwards was very good tonight. Steve Miller said in post-game that the ice was tough due to the heat and humidity. That hurt the PP's passing.
nice to see the normally calm and collected Gwoz get a little upset. that was a dumb play by the goal czar. this team will only get better as the season rolls along.
Hell of a way to start the season! Getting that early lead was key, and DU played solid defense tonight and withstood all of the BC surges. Great win and has to be a big confidence builder. Kudos to Adam Murray for standing tall tonight against and very skilled BC team. Let's get win #2 tomorrow boys!!!
BC 6, ND 2 ND -4
BC 2, DU 4 DU +2
So, will it be
DU 8, ND 2
or DU 6, ND 0
or DU 4, ND -2
Probably not the last one.
we will be undefeaed
Czar has never had a particularly good head on his shoulders, trust me. He's got speed and quick hands, but thinking isn't his game.
Is there a photo gallery anywhere?
Photos from game will be up later when DG and the LetsGoDU crew return.
From Pulp Fiction: "Let's not start sucking each others dicks just yet, gentlemen." First, the questions about Adam Murray have not been answered. He had a GREAT game, but it's just one game. I thought that he showed a confidence that I've never seen him show before. He was calm, cool and collected for the whole game. Awesome. He also made a big mistake that ended up costing us a goal. The defense actually played much better than I expected tonight. One can tell that they are well coached and executed very well throughout the game. The forwards, offensively, were great as expected.
A couple of points the Pioneers can work on. Penalties. Now, I understand that playing an HE team with refs (don't know what conference they were from) poses some uncertainty with what is a penalty and what's not. Given that, DU needs to take note and try to improve. Second, as I stated in the USCHO scoring thread, "Passes are made from the heart (thanks Herb)". DU's power play would have been much better if we didn't clear the puck ourselves with bad passes. A few times those bad passes ended up with a good opportunity for our opponent. That's another area that I'm sure will be addressed by the coaching staff.
14ers some good points. The PP wasn't very good and Gwoz acknowledged that. He also mentioned that the ice wasn't very good which made it touigh to make good passes on the PP. The weather back here tomorrow should be considerably less humid and cooler. Should make for better ice at BU.
O-V-E-R R-A-T-E-D!!!
Great W for the boys tonight. Gotta be a HUGE confidence builder. BB's bullet to open the second was amazing. It happened so fast you couldn't even tell what had happened--just heard pipe and then the action stopped. The 15 pounds means the man is going to be a stud.
BC is an amazing team especially down low in the corners--are D man had there hands full. It was amazing to watch the Eagles get in the corners and dig that puck and--they can score in a fraction of a second. They also were nailing us physically. I do think like the commentator on CBS said they were under a lot of pressure to perform and it showed. DU being the underdog on the road looked loose.
It was a really fun game to watch--the pace and flow were fantastic. I loved watching the battles in the neutral zone too--so much talent battling it out.
I thought Cross's bump into Zuck was low especially for a guy wearing the C.
Interesting to see Gwoz bear down on 18 for being an idiot with the puck with about a minute to go. Not something George usually does during play.
Can you say POWER???
Kid looked awesome. Seriously. Murray was a stone wall. Way to go.
GO DU!!!!!
Is the game tomorrow on anywhere (Pioneer Vision, tv, or the radio)?
Murray = solid! Good thing with a lot of bad turnovers in the defensive zone. Great win!!!
DU vs BU game is on the radio in Denver, and audio feed on DU web site. I think there is pay per view video on the BU Terriers athletics site.
Great win...much better than the shellacking we have taken from the Boston teams in recent years. Great play by Jackson to set up zucker on the first goal. And yes, zucker will be a beast if
he stays healthy. Ryder made one bad mistake that I saw, but provided great physical play, as always. Murray was impressive, as was the whole defensive effort. Good stuff all around.
Great win. There are some things we could polish (power play and odd man rushes for example) but overall a good performance.
Good - I say let the opponents concentrate on how to control Zucker with thier scouting and films and game plans.... then guys like Shore, Bennett will blindside them. It's really a nice situation for Denver. Adam Murray.... could he turn out to be another Glenn Fisher story? After a few years of backing up some great goalies....he got out there and had his day. I hope Adam puts Gwozdecky in a hell of a spot when Sam comes back, leaving George with a huge decision to make. Let's go 2-0 tonight boys!
Makowski now has two 100+ foot goals in his DU career.
Was a great game to watch. Denver's D was the biggest surprise and I mean that in a good way. Adam Murray did his job. And the Top Guns, well they are the TOP GUNS. Congrats to Mayfield on his first collegiate point.
Hey, where are the rest of Fieldings' pix at?
Anon 2:39: What was Ryder's biggest mistake? If you're talking about the second goal...unfortunately it was a bad choice made by Murray trying to pass which was intercepted. If you ask me, Lee is the one who made the biggest mistakes. Behind the net while his D partner was behind the net and 3...yes 3 unnecessary penalties that, lets face it, we can't blame the refs for. They were legit penalties
CO14ers must have spent to much time in the locker room when he was a water boy

You had over 14 hours to think of a witty retort to my post, and this is what you came up with? Nice effort, lol.
Unlike you chunk teeners I actually do things beside play on the computer all day long. Do you have the water bottles filled up yet?
Aluuum nails it again!!
Yep, we can always count on Aluuum for his non-astute, always-not-accurate prognostications.
You nailed it, Aluuum!!!
Anywho, GO DU!! Pull it together Murray (and Aluuum)!!!
We just can not have a goalie giving away goals nightly, especially in one goal games.
