The injury looked serious. It looked like a leg or groin problem. He needed help getting off the ice.

It's Plying Finn time next week and that might not be so bad considering how he played last night.

Rudy is lurking;one pulled muscle away.

please don't take this the wrong way....but that's a great photo. You know the addage, a picture is worth a thousand words....couldn't be more true. I hope Adam is OK. But I guess on a positive note.... if he cannot play against the Friars or Tigers... for the 1st time in a while, I feel confident about our goaltending. Juho can do this.

According to some postgame comments Murray's been playing on a wonky groin all season which may explain his struggles.

The biggest pulled muscle is the one between Murray's ears.

The guy has great size, good reflexes and good coaching, but he simply does not have the ability to link his skills to situational execution with any level of consistency at the college level. He gets rattled, he lets in goals in bunches and can't handle the puck outside his crease. Enough already.

He is a junior now, and he's no better than he was when he started here. Given all the other DU goalies improved under the same coaching, we can only assume that Murray does not have the mental makeup to play the position well at the WCHA level.

Lets go with Juho until Brittain gets back.

6:01 p.m. ... painful observation, but it needed to be said. Well spoken.

Painful indeed.

Murray's had every opportunity to step up and be the man at DU, but he really has not been able to get better than mediocre. Does any DU fan feel confident with Murray in net?

We've been blessed with about the last 12 years of pretty excellent goalies at Denver. Dubielewicz, Berkhoel, Mannino and Cheverie were all top notch goalies, with Glenn Fisher a notch below that group. Then you have Murray, and the best he's ever been is a notch below Fisher. Murray has been below average to average at best.

Time to give the Finn a shot.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but these comments writing off Murray are pretty ignorant. He has been doing ok, and anyone that actually watches the games can see that the mental side of his game is improving. He's hurt now. If Olki steps up and plays better than Murray did, Olki will get his due. But no need to have these write offs of players the day after they're hurt. Show some class. It's a long season...plenty of time for you to eat crow if Murray comes back and excels.

What is ignorant about Murray ranking 45th out of 72 goalies in D-I in saves pct (.902)? Or 13th out of 15 in WCHA GAA at 3.51? Or tied for 10th out of 15 in WCHA Saves Pct (.903)? These are the stats of an average-to-below average goaltender, injury or not.

I would love Adam to have have us all eating crow, but the fact reamins that he's had these kind of stats (or worse) in all three seasons he's been at DU so far.

I'd love things to be different, but Adam seems to have peaked at age 17. He's been mostly a dissapointment at the college level to date and the stats are what they are.

I would love to see Murray become an elite college netminder, but his challenge has been to attain mediocrity. He knows it. You know it and I know it.

Adam has been playing most of his games this year with a slight pulled groin. A goalie has to be at 100% health to be at his best. It's a mental thing as much as physical.

I love the trainer's "flood pants."

There are still games to play and Adam and Juho are the goaltenders for now. Hope Adam gets better.

I don't think there is much disagreement that Adam has the physical skills to play at a higher level, his problem, as someone already pointed out, is mental.

After having watched him play for two and a half years, it seems that a lot of the time he is uncomfortable. He fidgets, bobs his head and generally seems nervous.

He certainly has had flashes of brilliance; however, the name of the game is consistency.

While I am anxious for Sam to return, how long will it take him to get back into the level of play he had last year.

Gwoz will have some interesting decisions to make in the next couple of months.

Anon 9:04--stats say what they do. I'm not arguing that Murray has played like an elite goalie. But Gwoz and others have talked about Murray's better mental attitude, and he's had some good performances this year. I think it's foolish to write a goalie off, especially one that will be with your program for another year and a half. If the Finn deserves the starts, give him the starts. I'll be the Finn's #1 fan if he continues to play well. But I think it's borderline poor taste for people to come here and talk about how "that's a great photo," "Murray sucks, blah, blah" the day after he gets injured. If you heard his interview in between periods on Friday, the kid is hard enough on himself.

Anon 11:38--It's not "the Finn".
It's the "Plying Finn"

Sorry, Aluuum. I can't call him that until you tell me what exactly he is "plying."

I'm kind of hoping that BigBossMan shows up sometime soon.

I wonder if we'll see more injuries from goaltenders as they continue get taller and bigger.

Chevy (6'2 185) suffered a knee injury in juniors, Brittain's 6'3 210) knee and Murray's (6'2 200) groin.

Obviously a small sample group, but something worth keeping an eye on.

Anyone know why we haven't seen Olszewski all season???

Maybe the Danimal is just not one of the top 11 forwards at this point? With DU going 7 deep on D, there is less room for forwards to dress game in and game out.

Anonymous said...

I am sure that DU is dressing 7 d-men because promises of ice time have been made to these high level recruits.

The Danimal is a partial casualty of those promises made to d-men. He's probably DU's 13th best forward, coming after Loney and perhaps ahead of Jacobson.
