DU Recruit Riding 25 Game Winning Streak

Cody Depourcq
The BCHL Penticton Vees are riding a 25 game winning streak. Their historic start has made a shambles of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) standings with a 37-3-0 (2 OTL) record.

The youngest player on the team, by over a year, is 16 year-old Cody Depourcq (5'6 150 lbs), who will play for the University of Denver in 2013.

Despite playing against players that are mostly three or four years older, Cody has appeared in all 42 Vees games.  He has tallied 3 goals and 11 assists.

Penticton is ranked the #1 Junior A team in all of Canada.  Current Pentiction players who suited up for DU include Beau Bennett and Joey LaLeggia.

In USHL action on Friday night, Quentin Shore scored a game winning goal for Team USA and Garrett Allen had the game winning assist in overtime for Des Moines.

On Saturday night Gage Ausmus & Connor Chatham scored their first USHL goals for the USA Under 17 team.

Tomorrow night Ray Pigozzi and Dakota Mermis will suit up in the USHL Prospects Game that will be heavily attended by NHL Scouts.

Regarding DePourq, I'm currently working in Penticton for the next two weeks at a hotel, and will be attending the Vees-Salmon Arm SilverBacks game on Friday 1/27....I will provide updates and video footage via iPhone for those interested. Should be interesting.

Any word on any potential goalie recruits? After next season, Murray is gone, and its quite possible Brittain would leave after a solid season (a la Chevy). Olki is probably going to transfer somewhere at the end of this season...so, what's the recruiting staff doing to bring in a goalie? I'd recommend they sign one to be an understudy next season...

Why is Olkinoura necessarily transferring? He's gotten playing time already this year, and he'd be more likely to play even as a 2nd or 3rd string with DU than he would taking the required year off. I feel much more confident in his growth curve and natural abilities than Murray's. I realize it's hard to break George of the platoon habit, but I see a bright future for Jussi here.

Juho would have to sit out next season if he transferred to another NCAA school. So its very doubtful he heads to another school.

Odds are he battles with Murray & Brittain for playing time next season. After Murray graduates, he's probably earned a scholie.

Brittain's status depends on Florida and where they stand with goaltender depth. As Chevy found out in a hurry, its real hard to break into the AHL, much less the NHL.

Long and short of it, you can't recruit any goaltenders until Brittain leaves or you know when Brittain is leaving. And that probably depends on Florida opening a spot in the AHL for him.
