Ex-USOC Boss Tabbed To Run NCHC

(above) Jim Sherr will run the new NCHC
According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, former U.S. Olympic Committee chief executive officer Jim Scherr has been selected as the first commissioner of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.

Scherr resigned abruptly from the USOC in 2009 after a series of layoff and staff reductions.  He led the USOC for six years during which time the USA won a record number of medals in the Beijing Olympic Games and doubling of USA athletes' compensation and aid.

He wrestled for the USA in the 1988 Seoul Olympics finishing 5th.

Scherr was very well regarded by the national sports federations when he was at the USOC. When he was replaced with Stephanie Streeter, to say it was a debacle would be polite.

He should be a good hire for the conference, and has lots of great connections in media and sports to make great things happen.

Agreed, great hire.

From the fans point of view the four most important issues that Scherr must tackle in the coming months is setting the format of the league playoff tournament, the TV situation, lining up excellent referee crews & building a first-class website.

Crazy game last night. Russia was cruising along with a 6-1 lead and then Canada mounted a furious comeback to make it 6-5. Exciting 3rd period.

I wasn't exactly crying in my beer that Canada lost--I've grown tired of their fans over the years, as many others have. Regardless, I'll be pulling for the Swedes tomorrow.
