DU 2 - Colorado College 2 FINAL

The University of Denver led 2-0 on Saturday night in World Arena, but Colorado College tied the game in the second period.  Both teams had excellent chances to win the game in the third period and overtime.

Tigers really took the Pioneers to the woodshed this weekend. Looked like DU was going to get the split the hard way, but wound up coughing up a two goal lead. Give all credit to CC, they outplayed DU for vast stretches in the two games.

It remains to be seen whether this team can gather itself for the final few league games and for a diminishing shot at the national tournament. She hasn't sung yet, but the fat lady's got the throat spray in her hand.

Let's give the boys all the support we can and hope they can pull this out.

This has been a pretty blah season for the Pioneers. While the talent level is there to be an elite team, a caustic blend of injuries to key players, sporadic work ethic and a lack of discipline are turning this season into a forgettable one.

There is still time to right the ship for the playoffs and get on a late season run, but this team seems to lack the leadership and drive that great teams have.

It's a shame, really.

Rough weekend for DU. I'll usually take a tie on the road against a league foe, but the Pios really needed a W last night after Friday's poor result.

Huge challenge next weekend. The 1st place Gophers loom large. At this point I just want to see 6 periods of consistent effort and no more slow starts.

It seems fitting that CC won back the pan last night since it is super bowl weekend and the gold pan is basically like winning the super bowl for CC. We'll who's laughing when NCAA tourney time roles around...

As of right now DU would not even make the NCAA Tourney. When UND rolls around we will make sure you dont make it.

UND wouldn't make it right now, either.

Is this season reminding anyone of the 02-03 season?

I went to both games this weekend. What I saw was two teams playing at a B+ to a B- level. Neither team brought their A game which both are capable of. If either of these teams expect to be playing past March, they need to bring their A game to the rink. I've seen A games from both of these teams this year but now is the time. If you can't get "up" for your archrival, how are going to get "up" for anybody else.

CC got two great highlight reels from the Saturday game...the goal by Schwartz and Howe's ass over teakettle save in OT.

DU...now is the time to bring your A game to the rink with the Gophers coming this weekend.
