Brock Trotter Traded For Peter Mannino

From: AHL.com

The Winnipeg Jets, parent club of the AHL's St. John's IceCaps, have assigned goaltender Peter Mannino and forward Kenndal McArdle to the AHL's Portland Pirates. In exchange, the Phoenix Coyotes have re-assigned forward Brock Trotter from Portland to St. John's.

Trotter, 25, has played in 40 AHL games with Portland and Hamilton this season, totaling 14 goals and 24 assists for 38 points.

The Brandon, Man., native has played in 212 career AHL games, registering 173 points (71 goals, 102 assists) and 112 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in two NHL games, both for Montreal.

Mannino appeared in 10 games for St. John's this season, posting a record of 4-5-0 with a 2.77 GAA, a .909 save percentage and one shutout. The 28-year-old netminder was a career-best 26-5-1 for Chicago during the 2009-10 season and has appeared in six career NHL games with the N.Y. Islanders and Atlanta/Winnipeg.

One of DU's most decorated alums traded for one of its most infamous player. You can't make this stuff up.

I have confirmed as fact that he got in trouble at school for helping another student do a homework assignment. Trotter had studied really hard in the class and was such a great guy that he couldn't say no.

He was decorated all right in his last game he got a nice sun burn on the back of his neck.

I'm happy Mannino has been moved back into the AHL. He's been a great AHL goaltender and nearly got one of his teams to the Finals. No reason he should of been in AAA hockey.

I have no idea what Trotter did or did not do.

But by all means buy me two beers.

Why do most if not all of our alumni spend their whole career bouncing around the AHL or ECHL?

3 NHL full-timers for a superior NCAA program is pretty awful.

It doesn't say much for GWOZ and his staff when it comes to player development.

Is it really only 3? Bozak, Butler, Carle... who else?

Look close to home--like the Avs--Paul Stawtny makes four.

Mannino=great DU career, class act, and BIG Boone supporter. Glad he escaped the ECHL again.

Trotter=aborted DU career. Evicted in a cloud of secrecy...not missed.

Only 25% of NHL 2nd Round Draft picks ever play 60 games in the NHL. I'm guessing that Gwozdecky is batting higher than 25% with the 2nd round choices he's tutored.

Trotter, Gauthier & Connor James were all prolific goal scorers in the AHL, but didn't have the physical size to play in the NHL or become NHL third or fourth liners.
