DU 3 - Wisconsin 1 FINAL

The University of Denver scored three third period goals to defeat Wisconsin on Saturday night.  DU had been shut out for five consecutive periods by the Badgers before exploding in the Third.

Early in the game, Drew Shore was given a game misconduct penalty and the Pioneers facing a do-or-die game without their leading scorer and Co-Captain for the final 50 minutes.

Nate Dewhurst gave DU a 1-0 lead with 15 minutes to play in the final stanza.  It was a greasy goal with a scrum in front of the Wisconsin goalie.

Justin Schultz answered for the Badgers with a goal two minutes later to knot the score at 1-1.

The Goal Czar was set up with a beautiful pass from Jason Zucker to score the game-winning-goal with six minutes to play.  Zucker's play was all the more remarkable since he had left the ice minutes before, limping noticeably after colliding awkwardly into the boards.  After a visit to the locker room he reappeared and set up the game winner.

Nick Shore scored an empty netter with a minute left.

DU is now tied at #12 in the Pairwise Rankings.  DU will play the deciding game on Sunday night at Magness Arena.

DU lives to fight another day. Wow. Gutsy effort tonight after losing Shore early. It was great to see Dewhurst score a hard working goal. He's been good all weekend.

If DU can harness its energy and play hard for 60 minutes tomorrow night, a trip to St. Paul is in the works. Let's go boys!!

Again, the seniors produce. That was a great game - tomorrow is going to be even greater. Hottest sports ticket in Denver. Dirty shame it won't be on NBC Sports. Should be totally sold out (should be). I think I will watch "Miracle" tomorrow afternoon..................

Great student turnout tonight too

great win for the pios but talk about some HORRIBLE officiating!

Denver is a bunch of hacks. Funny how every time a DU player gets tossed its poor officiating, but any other team is a bunch of goons. The fans of this team is the reason everyone hates them. Once you figure out the game of hockey and start selling out playoff games then you might earn some respect around the world of hockey.

Did anyone send old Jake an email telling him his crystal ball stopped working?

9:03....no one here gives a rip whether you respect us or not, homeboy. There are 7 championship banners in the rafters here. Go get a job and move out of your parents' house.

Man, great win last night!

Dewhurst and Salazar didn't want last night to be their last games as Pioneers and they made sure it wasn't. I think that really emphasizes the importance of seniors on a team. Not only for maturity and experience, but because everyone else on the team gets to live to fight another day, not them though.

How would you like to be the Wisconsin player who got skeletonsmashed by Scott Mayfield? OMG. He's got to be sore this morning. I'd rather run face-first into a brick wall than collide with Scott. I think my seat shook on that hit

I really don't see us losing tonight and we will go on a 7 game win streak. Title number 8 here we come.

Funny how after every whistle there is always a DU player hacking someone or they are talking to an official. Learn to play hockey

That is funny.

What other amusing antidotes do you have for us?

Is the game on anywhere tonight?

So I hope when the NCHC starts that we will be able to see more of the Pioneers games on TV. It would be nice to see this game on Roots or something like that.

a couple things...

To Anon 9:03 - that would be "fans ARE." The plural use of the verb is required.

As for TV - the DU athletic department seems to believe in the misguided notion that that way to riches is subscription internet. Oh well...

Anyone know the status of Bennett and Makowski...are they practicing? Will they be available if we make the tournament? What a boost that would be, what a mental edge!

I find it interesting that Notre Dame, the team everyone was saying held all the cards in the realignment - the golden nugget that each league was foaming at the mouth for - is now out of competition until October.

Anon. 9:03...I have been watching and involved in hockey for probably more years then you have been alive. when you don't know where the face off goes when you call an bad icing call...there are issues. It had nothing to do with UW. The poor officiating went towards BOTH teams. Stop being a jerkwad and get a life...find a blog that supports whoever your home team might be and post your idiotic comments there.
