My favorite day of the year, when I get to listen to the TOP hockey analyst in the WORLD, Barry Melrose.... talk about how Denver doesn't stand a chance after they just melted in the Final Five - and North Dakota is going all the way because they're hot and firing on all 8 cylinders. Who's your pick for the National Championship, Barry - BC or UND?

D.G.what channel is ESPNU on for COmcast Denver?

Anonymous said...

Anyone know what the NCHC tourney format will be?

Anonymous said...

404 (SD) or 669 (HD). I have some expanded sports package so I'm not sure if ESPNU is included in the normal package or if it's only in the expanded package. If it's only in the expanded, definitely time to get the package added for the next month.

Zucker with a couple tweets since the end of the game. No mention of the injury. Wished good luck to the lax team and mentioned something about the tough loss last night.

dggoddard said...

We'll post the brackets as soon as they become available.

Nothing has been announced regarding the NCHC playoffs.

With eight teams in the conference the NCHC playoffs will likely be best of three first round at the homes of the top four teams.

Then the "NCHC Final Four" could be held at places like The Xcel Center, Pepsi Center, Engelstad Arena, World Arena or Omaha.

Nothing will be decided until the Big TEn figures out what they are doing with their playoffs. They likely will get first crack at the Xcel Center.

I thought somewhere I read that a major selling point of UNO's admission into the NCHC was the 18,000 seat capacity of the CenturyLink Center in Omaha (where they play their home games). I interpreted that to mean the NCHC tourney would be played there. I could be wrong of course. CenturyLink would also set up well as a future F4 site...

Omaha is the only centrally located site and should be selected if the suits care about student attendence, which is what a college tournament is all about. Omaha would be approximately an eight hour drive from the other schools and a piece of cake for a student to drive.
Plus, they already host the college world series and could lend that established expertise to our tournament. It takes quite a bit of work to start a tournament and that in place experience would be very helpfull.

Tuned in early and ESPNU has high school dance competition on. It's good to know that ESPN still thinks that college hockey is on par with the elevated status of high school dance.

Barry Melrose..."the Pioneers have not played well as of late???" Has he been watching? This guy has always disliked college hockey west of Boston and never gives DU any credit.

Good luck to JZ...we need him.

There will be a lot of Michigan fans in Greenbay and I know Gwoz wanted a Saturday game to accomodate travel and rest...Oh well...

Aluuum said...

That extra day will be meaningful. Our boys are beat up and need some R & R.
Minn.will beat North Da Goona. I'm calling it.They hate them as much as we do.

Anonymous said...

That show is painful.

So, DU sucks and Brett Hull was a Sioux???

ESPN said game at 3:30 MT, not 4:30 as posted above. NOt sure which one is right?

Also, no TV as of yet. THey only listed ESPN3.com. I pray Fox or Altitude will pick it up.

Any word yet on Zucker? He tweeted a couple times saying he was looking forward to the selection show, didn't mention the injury...

Anybody got info?

ScottA said...

What does Barry Melrose do during the season? Obviously he doesn't watch college hockey. What a greasy, self-absorbed half-wit.

Anonymous said...

accurate injury info at this time of year? LMFAO

Anonymous said...

Awesome. Just had Zach Parise on the show reliving his worst college memory...running into Denver in the Springs in 2004

timt89 said...

Barry Melrose showed his brilliant analytic skills by saying, "I always pick BC this time of year" and selecting Union College.

I think putting two WCHA teams in Minneapolis was a typical way the committee tries to limit the success of the WCHA. I know Union had a good year...but I can't see them even winning the weakest bracket.

I would not be totally surprised to see UMD take out BC...but obviously a tough game if it happens...

Good. I've waited for the chance for DU to play the Wolverines for 9 years now. This could be it.

dggoddard said...

If DU looks past Ferris they will be beaten.

Ferris State is going to be well rested and ready to go on Friday.

How Gwozdecky & the coaches prepare the team this week will be critical.

achsdu17 said...

I think it's a winnable regional... tough but winnable. We should be rested by then and they are battle tested.

Anonymous said...

Nothing is easy this time of the year, and getting happy or sad about your opponents is a waste of time. E.g. it could actually be more dangerous to be matched up with RIT than BC.

With that said, at least on paper, this is the best layout we've gotten in many years. If we manage to get through our bracket, we would have the winner of Union/Miami/Mass Lowell/Mich St. waiting.

Certainly not easy by any stretch, but it is kinda nice to see BC, BU, UMD, Maine, Minn and UND on the other side of the bracket.

Getting screwed by the "committee" won't be an excuse this year.

dggoddard said...

DU might look to share a charter flight with Air Force as they have done several times in the past.

Not sure if Air Force playing on Saturday and DU opening up on a Friday afternoon would affect those plans.

ScottA said...

Nothing safer than flying with 20-some guys who could take over in the cockpit if needed...

dggoddard said...

How did Gwozdecky know to send Lalonde out to Green Bay a year early to get the lay of the land and set things up for DU's Regional?

dggoddard said...

UND vs. Western Michigan should be an epic match-up.

They played DU tough last year and they rolled through Michigan last night.

All NCHC Frozen Four?

DU, Miami, WMU/UND & UMD.

ScottA said...

Beats the heck out of the Lowell, Union, Merrimack, Ferris F4 matchup I was worried about a couple weeks ago (and was gonna cost me my F4 tickets)

Melrose is all about himself. Just ask him. He also needs to geta haircut he is not a kid anymore.

From ESPN site:

Denver vs. Ferris State (ESPN3, 5:30 p.m. -- Airs on ESPNU on Friday at 11:30 p.m.*)

So, no live TV of first DU game? You have got to be kidding me!

Anonymous said...

According to Dan Myers on Twitter, DU will prepare as though Zucker is not available this week. Gwoz has been unwilling to elaborate on potential injury.

The way it happend, my bet is something upper body. Even Chambers was initially confused about why Zuck wasn't on ice, so whatever happened, it definitely wasn't obvious.

Anonymous said...

And now Chambers says he expects Didier and Zucker to play Friday. The wait begins.

Anonymous said...

I just can't wait for the Tuesday (or whenever) press conference to discuss the injury situation. I'm sure Gwoz will clear everything up. LOL.

Come on Gwoz. You can trust me. Just send me an email at anonymous@letsgodu.blogspot.com. I would like to know exactly who will be playing and who will not be playing. Also, if they are not playing, what the injury is with something more specific than dividing the body into two halves and picking one. I'm not a doctor, but just picking a simple body part will do. examples, head, shoulder, knee, arm, ankle, foot, etc. Also, please provide an estimate of their return. Not a BS one either. Like one an actual doctor gave, not a magic 8-ball. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Well, maybe Beau Bennett or Makowski will show up; then again, Gwozdecky has been known to play "the game" in the tournament.... not saying nothin about nothin, or leading the opponent to believe some isn't playing - so they pay no mind to that person during film & teem meetings all week - then an hour before gametime, that person is on the game roster, and the opponent is like, "Oh shit".
I'll bet you DU doesn't say a word all week about Zucker.

Anonymous said...

You wanna talk Goons? OK, here we go: put this in your pipe and smoke it - the AHL Lake Erie Monsters, who UND Alumn Bradley Malone plays for... got beat LAST NIGHT by the Chicago Wolves - who DU Alumn Kevin Doell plays for!

Boom Boom on your bitch ass!

timt89 said...

Did anyone get to see Mario Lamoureux on TV this morning? He is the missing link. With that porch of a forehead, he must never get rain in his eyes.

Anonymous said...

Lol Tim, lol. I miss his brother. Lamma Lamma Roo! Lets the pucks go through!

Anonymous said...

It's not Denver's fault our opponents keep kitting their heads on our elbows and shoulders.

ayoungerdu said...

Let them troll. I can't remember the last time our coach flipped the bird at someone or one of our players started a fight during handshakes. Maybe we should just look up the definition for "goon" in the dictionary.

Anonymous said...

I am for keeping the trolls; for the people with the Blogger accounts it's very easy to tell when it's the real person and not just a troll posting on their name. Take away the trolls and traffic goes down. Honestly I get a kick out of the stupid comments and arguments and censoring people is about as un-American as it gets.

http://espn.go.com/espn/contact

According to their TV schedule ESPN3 isn't even airing the game live since they will be airing Portuguese soccer. This is bullshit.

Anonymous said...

I am sure a Denver TV network will pick up the syndicated feed - Altitude, Altitude 2, Root, Comcast 5, etc.

Anonymous said...

DG deletes random posts because he is disgruntled and hasn't his pathetic excuse for a pecker in over a decade. Damn bro, try going on a diet.

CO14ers said...

Ahhh, trolls. The prior anon comment brought to you by an IQ of 1. Hide behind anon bro, it looks good on ya.

Anonymous said...

Is it fair to taunt the trolls with statements like "sucking down some serious protein" then get upset when they make fun of you?

Anonymous said...

Not a troll but I got a laugh out of the protein comment.
