Lacrosse Selection Show on ESPN-U

The University of Denver Lacrosse team will find out their fate tonight for the NCAA Tournament on ESPN-U during the Lacrosse Selection Show.

ESPNU will unveil the 16-team bracket during the hour-long 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship Selection Show Presented by Enterprise Rent-A-Car Sunday, May 6, at 7 PM MT. In addition to the bracket announcement, host Anish Shroff and analysts Quint Kessenich and Paul Carcaterra will provide breakdown of the field and tournament predictions, along with interviews with select head coaches.

LaxPower predicts that DU won't make the 16 team Tournament Field while Inside Lacrosse predicts that the Pioneers will be selected. It appears that DU and Cornell are the two teams fighting for the final spot in the Tournament.  That's problematic, because Cornell beat DU 9-8 in overtime, but DU's victory over #5 Duke may be the trump card.  Stay tuned.

Penn State is also in play for that last spot, a team DU beat by 8 goals, at Penn State.

DU lost that OT game at Cornell when Jamie Faus went down with his season-ending injury just before OT.

I'd like to think that the committee would look at those four OT losses and see that DU was step for step with everyone they played this year.

But then again, keeping DU out of the NCAAs would save the committee $50,000 in air charter costs which could be crucial to profit/loss.

I think DU will probably get screwed. Those OT losses will likely keep them out. Win two of those, and they'd be hosting a first round game,

We're in. We play North Carolina next Saturday in Chapel Hill on ESPNU.

Cool! Snuck in by the skin of our teeth. Never too late to get on a roll, I guess. Good luck vs. UNC.

Great to play North Carolina in Prime Time on ESPNU. Tough draw to be sure, ACC teams were undefeated against non-conference opponents in the NCAA Tourney last year.

Ironic that the teams on the bubble that didn't make it included DU opponents Penn State, Cornell & Fairfield.

Sure it's a tough draw, and DU must get their **** together to have a shot to win. But on first glance, it seems that it's the best draw that DU could have gotten, because UNC is the lowest (at #8) of the seeded teams.

Yes, we snuck in. SOS was major factor along with our consistancy. We did not play a "bad" game all year. Just like in hoops, the Committee does not want to give an at-large to a team that might not make a good showing.
By the way, Faus was injured between OT periods in ND game.
Also, we pay our own way for travel, probably. Charter makes long trip easy.
DU 15 UNC 12

Actually, I think the NCAA gives D-I tourney schools a travel allowance based on a full fare ticket for each member of the travel party.

So, Say full fare RT Denver to Raleigh/Durham is $1,000 on five days notice, and there are 50 members in a lax travel party, DU would get $50K from the NCAA. If the charter flights cost more than %50K, DU pays for the difference if they want to charter.

The money used to fund the NCAA championships, including flights, comes from the broadcast rights fees [mostly basketball] & NCAA championship ticket sales.

The rest of the money (60%) is sent to the conferences to divvy up among the schools.

Hope to see some good TV watch parties on campus, around campus and elsewhere for the Carolina game.

Shades of the 04 D.U. hockey team. They also just snuck in. They didn't even make it to the destruct tournament up in St. Paul which gave them the advantage they needed. Berkhoel took it from there.

DU has proven the can run with the big dogs if they play their game...

If DU can get by Carolina (no easy feat in Cahpel Hill), they will likely face Loyola. Now Loyola has beaten DU twice this year already, and DU pushed them to OT last time out. You can be sure they will be swaeting to face DU for a third time...

Win that game, and DU goes to Boston for all the marbles.

Like College Hockey, all you need is a four game winning streak....

Our offense is as good as anyones. And our goialtending is right there, too. Defense is the aspect that needs to be tighter. Trust in Tierney to have a plan.
