DU To Unveil Branding Project & Logo

After a year of market research and development the University of Denver will be unveiling a new branding platform that visually identifies, defines and differentiates DU to local, national and international audiences.

One piece of the branding platform is the new University logo. This new signature, which was designed as a result of the research findings, will now use the University colors: crimson and gold. The new logo, with its distinctive shield, will more clearly identify and differentiate the University as a prestigious academic institution which provides inspiration from our geographic setting as well as strength and endurance from our history.

Why in the world isn't Boone in the logo?

It's the UNIVERSITY logo not the ATHLETIC logo. No need to have cartoons on the academic side.

Looks good ... shocking they did this just in time for the Presidential debates eh?

I believe it was a joke

This shield replaces the abstract red D that the University had been using since 1998.

The atheltic logos "Arched Denver" and "Interlocking DU" remain unchanged.

There is actually a separate logo that DU is using for the Presidential Debate. It will be used until October.

I like it. The logo sort of reminds me of the "crests" that you see European soccer teams wear. It looks great - much better than the red D.

The 1998 red "D' was a very corporate-style logo that well reflected Dan Ritchie and the 90s corporate style and credibility he brought to DU when DU needed to be pulled out of the 1980s financial abyss.

The new logo is clearly designed up the prestige factor that helps to justify the high rates DU charges, as well as to put DU deeper into the fellow company DU wants to keep among selective privates.

The academic shield comes from 1300s Oxford and Cambridge Universiyt in England and was basically copied by the whole Ivy League in the 1600s and 1700s. Since then, many other Universities want to look like Ivies, too.

It looks great, and if you go check out the presidential debate website you can see some minor integration of style (including the wordmark at the bottom of the debate logo).

This would be a really cool shoulder patch on our hockey/lax jerseys. Arched Denver on the front. Interlocking DU on one shoulder and the crest part of this new logomark on the other shoulder.

Best of all is the timing. Proud to see DU so organized and proactive...

Totall agree on the shoulder patch.

Would look great!
