DU 5 - Air Force 2 FINAL

The University of Denver scored ten goals over the weekend after cruising to a 5-2 victory over Air Force in Magness Arena on Saturday night.  Nick Shore recorded a hat trick, Joey LaLeggia and Zac Larraza added goals.

DU's new three D-man power play unit is leading the country in scoring percentage.

Nice weekend. DU is the only undefeated & untied team left in the WCHA.

CC, UND and Minnesota all lost a game over the weekend.

This was a very good start for the Pioneers. Only one soft goal let in, and power play is at 66% through first two games.

The key to the game was answering with a third goal right after AFA cut DU's lead to 2-1.

This team worked very hard all weekend. There was only one 5-10 minute stretch of lazy hockey vs AFA, and Gwoz called a second-period timeout to remind them about lazy play and I think it really helped them stop with the carelessness.

Excellent student turnout this weekend for both game, strong band and Boone performances, too.

This could be a fun year.

They look good, man. Lots of people were thinking rebuilding year, after losing the big scoring guns last season; but I really like what I see. The Sophomores are blossoming already. There's some things to work on - but all in all I think DU will do very well. Michigan Tech will be a big test, and another really indicator of this team. Remember that Tech does that screwy offensive zone rotation thing, circling in the corners that typically drives DU crazy.... that will be a challenge.

Heard that Tech was stacking three or four players in front of the goalie this weekend and blocking every shot in sight.

DU will have go hard to the net and get some dirty goals.

Someone on DU's bench dodged a bullet last night, at the end of the game during that fight. I forgot who it was; but we sit right behind the bench. He hopped over the boards, obviously wanting to go join in, but the referee stopped him and pushed him towards the boards and told him to have a seat. That could have easily been another suspension for Denver; kind of cool that the ref did that, and let it slide.........

Nice to see a hard working effort from the Pios. Everyone contributed to the win and we actually made good passes. I like the look of this team so far.

It was Dakota Mermis who left the bench but referee Brian Thul gave him a break by just sending him albeit forcfully back to the bench, he could have been given a major for leaving the bench which would have led to a suspension

D. Mermis didn't leave the bench. He was already on the ice, skated towards the bench after the buzzer, then realized stuff was going on and he tried to rejoin the scuffle because DU was outnumbered, at which point the ref saw him and wouldn't let him back into the zone.
