DU 5 - Michgan Tech 2 FINAL

(above) The student section was rocking on Saturday night
The University of Denver hockey team continued its torrid scoring pace and rolled to another impressive victory over Michigan Tech.  Saturday night marked the fourth straight game that DU scored five goals.

Mike Chambers of the Denver Post had some comments on the officiating and a phantom call on Joey LaLeggia.  Jeoy Leggs is quietly becoming one of the best defensemen in college hockey.

Quentin Shore, David Makowski, Joey Leggs, Shawn Ostrow & Daniel Doremus scored for DU. Adam Murray was solid between the pipes.

Fun two weeks of hockey to open the season.

Great start for DU, very impressive. They're doing exactly what they need to do at the beginning of the season (and some). They have St. Cloud at home next weekend and then a very tough schedule for the rest of the winter quarter.
They play CC Nov. 16th and that starts an extremely difficult schedule the rest of the season. Such is life in the WCHA.

And CC lost. Again.

NoDak and UMD also couldn't muster more than ties.,

The Great White Whale was in attendance. Thar she blows! DG wearing his new Boone jersey was in the front row before moving to the student section.

Funny moment at Magness last night...

Shortly after Doremus' goal, while walking along the east concourse, I observed Paul Stastny and Tyler Bozak arguing access to the Crimson Club with the young, well-dressed athletic department representative checking tickets and wrist bands.

Apparently, being a former DU star doesn't quite merit full access to the concourses at Magness...

(Incidentally, the whole Crimson Club thing remains a head-scratchilgly stupid policy that DU continues to enforce. The ONLY reason to try to keep people out of the concourse surrounding the Crimson Club is because of the "exclusive" concession stand, "reserved" for Crimson Club ticket holders. A much better way to do this would be to rope off a small area in front of the stand and have someone checking wristbands/tickets there. The way they do it now just pisses off people trying to walk around the concourse.)

@2:55 - very good suggestion. Not quite sure what makes that stand so exclusive; perhaps the footlongs are actually cooked; as opposed to the other locations that serve them virtually lukewarm, with stale buns. Walking all around a concourse is a tradition for alot of people at a hockey game - can't do it in Denver. It's really really dumb. On the flip side, I myself breezed right past the teenage girls in skimpy skirts before and bought a beer... with no wrist band; nobody checked me

The concession stand in question is exclusive because it's supposed to be reserved for the use of Crimson Club ticket holders.

Which I get. And, to be honest, have no problem with.

Not having to wait in concession lines (particularly in-between periods) is a reasonably attractive perk to offer Crimson Club members.

What I DO have a problem with is hearing all of the first time/casual fans mutter "how idiotic" as they walk the other direction after being turned away by the people keeping the "riff-raff" out of the Crimson Club.

Think those people will be in a hurry to come back for a game?

The "crimson club" thing is moronic and needs to end. It's very un-fan friendly and makes people not want to come back again. Elitists who think the idea is to win season ticket holders lose the big picture, which is to make DU part of the Denver community. This turns off anyone from Denver who isn't DU alum.

Enough with the elite bashers.

Almost every revenue producing sports program has premium season ticket holders who pay far more money than the rest of us do to watch the same game. They are at Broncos, Avs, Nuggets, Rockies, CU, CSU AFA and DU, too.

In reality, high priced corporate tickets are vital for keeping ticket prices lower for the non-premium seats. They help every program make more revenue, which is vital to staying nationally competitive.

At least DU's elite ticket holders aren't behind glass in luxury suites - they are out in the open with the rest of the fans. DU did it right.

Got to give DU & the Crimson Club the benefit of the doubt on this one. DU needs a $20 million donation to build out the East Side stands of Magness.

They always intended to expand the East side. No one has ever come up with the money.

Although there were several lapses Saturday night, I was pleased with the team's performance. Perhaps a winning formula is to have less "suprestars". It has been a while since we have had balanced scoring.

Indeed. Right now, anyone one, including Brittain, can get a point or two. If opponents are still approaching Denver by focusing on shutting down one marquee line, they're in for a rude awakening.

Love the new Vietnamese Soup (Pho) stand in the North end of Magness...Definitely good stuff.

It's official, besides CC sucking WCHA ref's suck.

Did the usher stop Bozak because he was wearing black face? What a clown. Tyler Bozo.
