(above) After completing the hit on CC's William Rapuzzi, DU players discuss where to bury the body |
At World Arena on Saturday night the University of Denver held on for a 6-5 victory. There were long stretches of the game that looked like it would be a walkover for the Pioneers. But Colorado College fought back to make things exciting for the fans and players alike at the end of the game.
DU is in first place in the WCHA, 1st in the Pairwise Ranking and in control of their own destiny in pursuit of the Gold Pan.

A ton of heroes for DU last night, but Scott Mayfield (1g,+4) & Chris Knowlton (1g) both elevated their games under the Friday Night Lights.
Suburban figure skaters fold again.
Mr. Brittain, you have the stage. His backup is Zach Hope. Part of me is, what I'd guess you call "glad" that Schwartz won't be playing Saturday; he's so damn good... but a much bigger part of me is disapointed at the same time. There's unfinished business that will have to wait until the next series. I don't mean, revenge or getting back at somebody - I mean, these teams deserve to have everyone on the ice together. The fans deserve it.
Classic gwoz move send our goalie who wont play tomorrow to take out their top player schwartz. Great tacticle move by gwoz. Cc fans are pathetic. How the f did they score 5 on us?
Yes a few years ago he ordered the code red and testwuide took out the gophers top scorer. That my friends is good coaching.
The real action came at the final buzzer. One of the CC players made a premeditated run at a DU skater.
Jussi went after a player who had cheap-shotted him is the final minute. Pretty sure it wasn't Schwartz.
Then after the fight was broken up CC went to Center Ice to salute their fans after a loss...thats a new one.
After about 15 seconds of calm, near the DU bench the DU players start hamming it up like they've just won the Stanley Cup. Really over the top. Jumping on each other and doing everything but throwing their sticks & gloves up in the air. CC fans near the glass start throwing cups & drinks, dozens of them at the DU "celebration." Boos are raining down from the CC faithful exiting the building.
Lassonde, who's on the ice, is getting into it with some CC cup throwers and directing traffic like he ordering security to arrest them.
As most DU players slowwwwwly make their way across the ice to the locker room, most of the guys are raising their arms, taunting the crowd and egging on the CC student section.
But no one puts on bigger show for the student section than Jussi, who's the last DU player off the ice. He's trying to get the CC student section to cheer for him like its a home game.
Needless to say it was a hairy walk out of the arena for DU fans. There was a MMA-style fistfight in the Concourse. CC fans are shouting DU sucks, anti-Denver slogans and "overrated."
I wish the most horrible things on the DU players and the DU coaching staff. The way your players acted last night, is how they get injured tonight. Just sayin.
@ 9:24 - you lost, get over it. Wishing horrible things on a bunch of college kids? Real class act.
If your shithead player hadn't run our guy at the end NONE of this would have happened.
cc sucks! and their fans swallow!
DU finishes the sweep tonight!
I hate DU so fucking much I am actually going to pull for UND when they play DU. Unreal. "Bury the body?" Didn't expect that type of rhetoric from Jessie Martin's former team. That's a class act.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
I've hated cc for 30 years. They are just a bunch of needle-dicked swallowers, the fans and the players.
DU is quickly catching UND in becoming the most hated team in the NCAA hockey. I second the comment on horrible things to DU players. DU....the best AHL training program.
I'm betting the fightin pussy fans are going to be incredibly stupid tonight.
CC fans apparently have a lot of sand in their vagina's.
@ 9:48 - and no one gives a fuck.
9:48-
Cool story bro
good god tonight is going to be fun - bringing a roll of quarters just in case!
Yeah, boy, always great to beat those hacks, and I think its nice that DU had a little fun on the CC ice after the game. Must have driven their pathetic fans crazy under the participation banners.
Everyone calm down - Weed is legal in our state!!! Say, I counted 1,957 CC fans booing the Pioneers at the end of the game. And how dare you accuse us of pushing the goal net - he simply lost his footing and fell forward I tell ya! Way to be a senior leader there, Schwartz! Go after someone's head, AFTER the game ends nonetheless .... and get DQ'd, right when his team needs him the most. NIIIICE JOB Dude!! That's what I call Tiger Pride!
May the Schwartz be with you!
(oops. sorry cc fans. that doesn't apply tonight)
DG's delusional recap of the end of the game is the most interesting thing I've read in the 3+ years I've subjected myself to his nonsense.
He's becoming more and more like Donald with every breath...
Seriously, cool story bro.
If you think he's delusional and spews nonsense, why are you on his blog 24-7? Did you and Dubbie get the honeymoon Suite at The Broadmoor last nite?
The only thing Schwartz did wrong last night was not connect. Quarters are in pocket.
Dubbie whimped out at the last minute. I don't really blame him. The Golden Bee is one thing, some random bar is another.
I still have yet to find the penalty CC fans shout for when a CC player loses an edge (with or without contact), or the other one they seem to want all the time- "making contact with a CC player." Neither are in the rulebook.
I won't say that DU has a huge, passionate, and well-informed fan base, because it's not true. But at least we're not as dumb as the sad sacks at the World Arena.
So explain what actually happened spic...
I, too, would just loooove to hear Ronnie-boy's recap. Where's it at, bit€h?
The racial slurs are nice. Anyway, you all missed the point. I enjoyed his imagination. It's rare to see that here.
Any chance either one of these suspensions got reversed this morning?
Reverse a suspension? Once the call is made, it's done. I'm not going to get to much into it, but don't hold your breath.
Hopefully Denver's finest enforce some arbitrary traffic laws for anyone with CC stuff on their car.
45 minutes until DU-CC game 2: Electric Boogaloo. I hope that DU wins decisively and goons it up to the max.
CC looks like they are more in to settling scores from last night than they are in playing hockey. DU luckily isn't falling into the trap.
CC sucked it up to the max and got swept out of the arena. Very little shit talking from DU fans because nothing we can say can equal what life does to CC fans on a daily basis. Have a fun hour long drive back to the worst part of Colorado.
There needs to be new thread ... how good is this DU team? Honestly. This may be a really good team, way beyond what we imagined .. 2004? Anyone? How good is this team?
Poor Zach. You know you're at the bottom of the pail when they dress an injured guy to put in before you. lol It's all good, #30. You're as much a Pioneer player as Chris Knowlton. And when you go to the White House this spring - Barack won't know the difference lol. And Grandma was right - CC really DOES suck! ONE. NINE. FIVE. SEVEN. Please use extra bubble wrap when you ship the gold pan up here, eh? Howe: you suck and you Mom's a whore.
How good is this DU team?
Hard to say - they've been mostly at home and haven't played a lot of top teams yet. That said, they play as a team and they work hard, and they get results.
Defense: Most mobile and offesive minded I've ever seen at DU. They move the puck out fast, which makes our transition game go. They also can jump into the play to produce offense and anchor the PP. Defensively, they are pretty good, but can be exploited by speed (See SCSU,CC).
Offense: Good work ethic makes up for a lower skill level than previous DU teams. They play smart, but there's no dazzling forward on the team. The reason DU is scoring 4.5 goals per game is contribution from the defense, which is stellar. We are watching previous depth guys grow into pretty good WCHA players (Knowlton, Tabrum, Doremus, etc.)
Goaltending: Excellent. Great Brittian is the best of the bunch. He'll win the starting job before long.
Overall - This team has emrging leadership and is learning to play a more complete game and to manage the puck. You have to like what we've seen so far, but nothing is won in November.
