St. Cloud State 3 - Denver 0 FINAL

After starting off the season impressively, the University of Denver was unable to muster any offense against St. Cloud State University on Friday night at Magness Arena.  The Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead and were able to secure the shutout.

Cannot understand why only 4400 or so tickets were sold. The team (was) undefeated, playing well, no Avalanche games to draw people away from DU, good weather, The student turnout was even pretty good ???? There wasn't much media hype this week. I can't believe the Cutthroats would pull a substantial amount of people away from going to a DU game. They're two different products - and the true hardcore hockey fans know the difference.

Kind of a bummer to have 4 or 5 Huskies screaming "over-rated" and "number one" after the game.

Unfortunately, most of DU's 2012 offense is on an AHL bus a little bit south of Saskatoon.

Wonder how many of the 4400 won't come back after the loss. Students tend to be fair weather fans.

The jealousy continues......

Oh , one more thing ....... One of the best players in the league didn't play for SCSU last night.

Face the facts, DU kool-aid drinkers...... When your offensively challenged team gets into the grind of long season in the WCHA, you're going to see a lot more performances like last night.

Your obsession with DU continues....get out of the house.

DU is not going to draw a huge against St. Cloud. If you were undefeated and played CC, UND, UM, or UW it would have been sold out. The 4,400 is a refelction on St. Cloud and the City of Denver's interest in DU hockey, not DU.

Having said that, this was the first test for DU against a "good" hockey team and they failed miserably. I anticipated a split going into the weekend, but if DU gets swept it's bad news. Their schedule is a mofo the remainder of the year. St. Cloud was the better team last night, and may have shown that they are the better team in general.

DU's touted defense let St Cloud run the goalie twice for goals last night. Ramification = none. Phillips is a wuss!

That game just sucked overall last night..our offense sucked, they couldn't even keep the puck on their sticks; our defense sucked, many times when they passed the puck it was a turnover; and the officiating sucked, there were so many blatantly missed calls.

Everything sucked last night. DU needs to step it up, no excuses.

The problems with the offense started in the D zone with a complete lack of ability to get it over the first blue line, let alone the second. Maybe 4 or 5 legitimate scoring chances all evening.

When you get lazy, pretty much any team in the conference is going to make you pay for it. DU most egregiously just got outworked, all other issues aside.

Friday crowds are usually smaller than Saturday crowds.

You'll see well over 5K there tonight.

I think the Cutththroats are siphoning more or of the Avalanche fan base during the NHL lockout than DU is.

DU has put its major marketing efforts into basketball in the past 3-4 years, and I think they took hockey for granted a bit. I think they need to market both. In a tough economy, I think a good people are giving up sports tickets, too.

I think DU also needs to upgrade the spectator experience in Magness. It needs new lighting, new sound system and improved scoreboards. What was pretty good in 1999 is now aging quickly. The band should be miked up, too.

Phillips is just too small to take on LeBlanc.

game reminded me of the Alabama Huntsville disaster from last year. Terrible and sloppy. DU lost the 50/50 pucks and was terrible in the neutral zone. Hope they get back on track tonight.

I'll be there tonight, I'll fix things up. I'm on it.

Maybe last night was the real DU, against actual competition. DU's won a pair against Tech, who sucks. And one against Mass-Lowell, and Air Force. DU won all of those games handily, but the competition was terrible. I think we saw the real DU last night. Just wait until DU faces the heart of the WCHA.

Don't compare this to DU's epic failure against Alabama Huntsville, which is right up there with UofM losing to Holy Cross in terms of biggest upsets the past 10 years. Sorry St. Cloud is legit competition, Alabama Huntsville is absolute garbage. St. I know your hopes were high when you went 4 and 0 against terrible competition, but have you thought that St. Cloud may just be better than DU this year. You better win tonight. I repeat...you better win tonight.

Here is to an SCSU SWEEP TONIGHT.

Maybe the Pioneers were affected by the altitude ??? Either that, or they had too much Halloween candy??? Something sure was amuck. I expect a split. You can't win every game; but you can and should play every game to the best of your ability. I hope they turn this into a positive by learning from it, as a group. I would rather lose like this to a league team rather than a non-conference team. It's going to be alright.

It's all Tyler Bozak's fault

DU needs to play a gritty game to win tonight. Phillps and Shore have to lead by example.

Redemption defined. Those ass pickles who were in Huskies garb, yelling "OVER RATED" after last night's game, and were still going nuts while St. Cloud was introduced tonight..... sure got quiet as the game went on!!! LOVE IT. That people, was Pioneer hockey.
