Yale 2 - DU 1 OT FINAL

"No other way to put it. If I had been sitting anywhere else, I would have been booing."
- Coach Gwozdecky in Denver Post
The Yale University hockey team came into Magness Arena on Friday night and earned a hard fought 2-1 overtime victory.

After withstanding numerous shorthanded situations including a five minute major, a 5-3 shorthanded shift to start the third period & a scoring a shorthanded goal, Yale recorded the game-winner with a man advantage in overtime.

Yale fully deserved the win. They had a great game plan and outworked DU badly.

DU deserved to lose. Terrible performance on home ice tonight, save for a the last five minutes of regulation.

If DU plays on Saturday like they did tonight, UNH will run them out of the building,

Interesting comment from the Coach about "booing" the team.

Great teams can win games like tonight. Obviously DU is not quite good enough to mail in a game and come away with a win. Oh well, lets see what kind off effort they can come up with on Saturday night.

Let's hope that they learned something from tonight and come out strong tomorrow.

Oh, DU will play better tonight - Bet your mortgages and your Mom's lives on it. My only concern is - if the Wildcats win in Magness, Denver is going to drop so far down in the rankings, that OSHA will be all over the school's ass for not having fall protection! Huge PWR implications - right here. I had bad Huntsville dreams last night.....

Every team is going to lose games this year so it is more about how we bounce back. This is likely to move Yale into the rankings and UNH already has a high RPI so a loss is not that fatal if it happens. We just need to play better.

To me, it is about peaking at the end of the season. That has been our problem the last several year (along with staying healthy). We'll be just fine...

Once again, the wcha officials reared their ugly heads - and arguably changed the game. The late penalty called on DU for tripping, was a complete flub. On Piovision you can see that they 2 players never made contact.
They also took a huge risk at the end of the game, having all the players on the ice waiting for video replay, only leaving 2 referees out there. Even Kindergarten teachers know to never turn your back on the class.
What if somebody started some shit? That's bad. How awkward if they ruled it no goal, and everyone had to go back to the benches? Very oddly handled in my opinion.

Really, you couldn't get it done with a 5 on 3 and your going to blame the refs? DU got out worked all night plain and simple.
