According to Mike Chambers of the Denver Post DU forward Jarrod Mermis is taking a "Leave of Absence" from the team.  On Tuesday his brother Dakota left the Pioneers to join the OHL London Knights.

The drama continues.

My first reaction when hearing that Dakota was leaving for the OHL was that we wouldn't see Jarrod on the team next season.

Maybe the timetable has been moved up.

Time will tell.

Maybe the 'indefinite leave' is a trip to Ontario to get Dakota before he straps on the skates and bring him back.

We'd all like to see that happen, but guessing he signed a contract on Tuesday night.

The second the pen hits the paper, your NCAA eligibility vaporizes.

Skate with the Pioneers! If any fans are interested in suiting up for tonight's contest, please bring your picture ID and see the Usher upon entering the arena tonight.

Forwards get priority....

This whole saga with the Mermises has gone from weird to bizarre. I think at this point we just need to (1) wish Dakota well--hopefully he's making the right choice for himself and his family and (2) hope that Jarrod, if he still wants to be a Pioneer, gets well and/or gets his act together and gets back on the ice. Jarrod has barely played half a season this year. DU's depth is teetering on the edge of a cliff.

I've got some eligibility left. 'Course I skate like Kate Smith, stick handle and pass like Joe Biden and shoot like Pee Wee Herman. But I'm available.

I say get Gwoz on the horn and tell him Old Pio is suiting up. You had better make sure your health and dental insurance premiums are current.
