I just sent the Cornell coach an email calling him out on those comments.

Step up the plate pal, put on your big boy pants and accept the fact that Goon hockey didn't prevail this weekend.

You should of sent it to the Cornell Athletic Director. [wink, wink] :-)

No penalties were called in the third period, until the game was concluded. Classic situation of the "refs letting the kids play."

To me that is all you can ask for.

I guess in the ECAC the refs call penalties for the trailing team so that every game can end in a tie.

That's whats wrong with America today, its run by politically correct Ivy League scumbags. :-)

Next year when DU travels to Ithica, the scoreboard will be turned off all weekend and at the end of the series both teams will be given participation ribbons.

In defense of Schaffer, the refs in the WCHA are bad. I just hope the NCHC doesn't employ any of the WCHA's officials.

The refs weren't the problem last night though. Last night Cornell walked into our building and gooned up the game with three instances of blows to the head. Hell one of them didn't even get called... and it was a cross check. I'm guessing the refs didn't want to automatically give us another 5 min power play. Still no class... that's all I can say. I've never seen so much disrespect at the end of a hockey game and if Cornell doesn't want to come back... Good! I don't want to see a classless team like that back in our building. Mike Schafer is in huge denial and he knows it... those players were ready to start something and pick a fight.

The problem, for Cornell this weekend, was Olkinuora! You don't win games if you don't score goals.

BTW, we were all expecting Denver to get some ejections after Cornhole got their two. Usually, the refs even up the penaltys if it's lopsided. I thought the DU players showed good poise by not making questionable hits to get back at them. I bet they all told Mayfield to lay low lol

I'm afraid all the really telling "go fook yourself" japes have been used up. TV didn't show Cornell's post-game assaults, so I can't comment on that. Perhaps in the Ivy League players are encouraged to offer critiques of officials, but not in the real world. I think it's totally classless not to shake hands. I can't recall ever seeing it. And by the time they got back to Ifuckya, I'm sure they regretted it. As to the threat not to return, well the Pioneers will just have to soldier on, won't they?

I have never heard of holdng your guys on the bench at the end of a game. Typically, at the end of time players go on the ice immediately--to celebrate, congratulate their goalie, and line up for the hand shake. Big Red were spoiling for a fight.

As for a player saying, "you're part of the problem" to another head coach-- it was clear that they were not under 'emotional control'. At the end of the game, players should have nothing to say to coaches, other ohan 'congratulations'. I hope Schaffer doesn't have children...he would be a mess at parent-teacher conferences!

Here is the reply to my email to the Cornell coach:

I do regret saying not coming back to wcha but I did congrat George his goalie and team on a well played series and gave them all credit It was pen elites after the game that I criticized officials for. Had nothing to do with game. But u r right I should have never said I won't come back to wcha. Probally the same way George regrets going on ice after officials the one year. We do and say things as leaders sometimes we regret.

Well, I do give the coach credit for responding to your email. Time to move on, I guess. Important thing is that we got the 2 big wins, and it looks like we are out of THE SLUMP.

Classy response.

Hockey is one of the few D-1 sports where you can write a head coach a note and get a response - usually in 24 hours. That is one of the great things about collegiate hockey!

Cornell is first in the nation in penalty minutes at over 21 minutes per game, 4 more than the team with the second most. Can a reasonable person believe that this weekend`s officiating crew was suddenly harsh on the Big Red?
